SOURCE: WEP Encryption

It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before enabling encryption. Note: Your network will slow down and wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead. Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1). Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen. Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key. Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption. 64-bit encryption 10 characters 128-bit encryption 26 characters 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only) The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key). Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings. Note: If using non-D-Link adapters, please refer to the manufacturer´s documentation on enabling encryption.

SOURCE: need to set up security for my DI 624 d link wireless router

Open a browser and type 192.168.0.1
Type in “admin” for the username and press "Enter".
Click "Home", click "wireless" (in the left panel)
Change your SSID to your liking. Do not use anything in the name that gives you away, like "LINKSYShome" or "Bob<House#>"...anything like "please try to hack me!" - you get me.
The DI 624 offers only WEP encryption in 64 and 128 bit, which is easy to crack (just google it!) and might give you a false sense of security. Nevertheless it is better than nothing and prevents someone accidental using your network, but you should choose a 128-bit-key and use random characters.
(128 bits divided by 8 bits per byte = 16 bytes. Minus 3 bytes used as "initialization vector" leaves you 13 bytes as key length.)

This key you can copy into a text file and copy it into the Network key settings, when you connect your computer. (Saves you from typo frustration...;-)
Don''t forget to save your changes!

Please let me know if this worked for you!

SOURCE: I have a wireless d link router di-614 i never set

Hi,

Here are the steps on how to set a password on your router.

Open your Web browser and type "http://192.168.0.1" into the URL address box.

Then press the Enter or Return key. The logon pop-up screen will appear. Type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank.

Click OK Once you have logged in, the Home screen will appear.

Click Run Wizard. You will see the following screen.

Next Step 1 - Set up your new password. You have the option to establish a password.

Click Next Step 2 - "Choose your time zone", you will be prompted to select the type of Internet connection for your router (see next page). Click Next The Setup Wizard (continued) Select the type of Internet connection for your router. Select one of these settings If you are unsure of which setting to select, please contact your Internet Service Provider.

Click Next If you selected Dynamic IP Address, this screen will appear:

Click the "Clone MAC Address" button to automatically copy the MAC address of the network adapter in your computer. You can also manually type in the MAC address. What is a MAC address? Each network adapter has a discrete Media Access Control (MAC) address. Note that some computers and peripherals may already include built-in network adapters.

Click Next If your ISP requires a Static IP Address, and this option is selected, then this screen will appear: Do not use Enter the IP address information originally provided to you by your ISP. You will need to complete all the required fields. the numbers displayed in these fields. They are only shown as an example.

Click Next If your ISP uses PPPoE (Point-toPoint Protocol over Ethernet), and this option is selected, then this screen will appear: Enter in the username and password provided to you by your ISP.

Click Next The Setup Wizard (continued) Wireless Setup The default wireless settings are: SSID = default Channel = 6 You can change these settings to match an existing wireless network.

Click Next Encryption The DI-614+ is capable of three levels of wireless encryption - 64bit, 128-bit, and 256-bit. By default the encryption is disabled. You can change the encryption settings for more secure wireless communication.

Click Next Your Setup is Complete! Click Restart Click Close You will be returned to the Home tab. Test Your Internet Connection

Click Exit Then relaunch your Web browser

Password protect wireless access

You'll need to access the administrator web page for your router, and then set a security key (password) for wireless users.

Cannot access my wireless network

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.
