Hi,
That is normal operation...the only thing you can do to help cool the coils and the wall is to pull the unit away from the wall a bit more so that more air can get around the coils ans cool them down..
the heat is the heat from the inside being discharged to the outside...
The coils will not get hot enough to cause any damage, but yes they do create quite a bit of heat especially if the area is very tight...

I just heard some popping noise (like water drops on hot item) in the back of my freezer and saw a coil bright red behind back wall. Is that defroster? Can the defrost heater cause fire! The color changed...

Defrost heater should not become more than warm, could be yours has a fault and from your description you are right to worry.

Even when the defrost cycle goes wrong and the panel remains on permanently it doesn't become any more than warm, there would be no sense in it being hot and red heat would be dangerous to the freezer and human hands...

Refrigerator maintenance

Clean the coils -the coils at the back remove the heat. If they are clogged they become inefficient and the compressor will work harder. Unplug the frige, pull out from the wall and reach behind with a long handedled broom or vacum cleaner nuzzle.Another advice- position your refrigerator away from sunny windows, hot water heaters, radiators, stoves and other heat sources.

Frig has suddenly become warmer than usual. Freezer is at 20 degrees and frig at 60. Tried to vacuum coils but very dificult to reach them underneath the unit. Any other hints?

what the problem most likely is a failed part of the defrost system Do you see a bunch of frost built up on the back wall of the freezer? If you do frost build up, take off the back wall of the freezer and replace the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. A hair dryer could be used to melt the built up frost from the coil behind the back wall. Another part that will cause frost build up is the defrost control, that isn't the freezer behind the back wall but instead it is part of the main computer board on the back of the refrig. I would replace heater/defrost thermostat first though, since they are the most likely to fail parts.

I hope my answer will help you to fix your refrigerator,

Interior wall of unit gets extremely hot

If you are talking about the wall that runs between the freezer and the fridge where the door gaskets actually touch. The answer is no. It should be warm though.
What can cause this is the fan that is located at the rear not operating or dirty coils under there. Check the fan it should be operating when the unit is in the cool cycle, if it is not then it will need to be replaced. And clean the coils. This will help.

Model 596 50392001 side by side panel between

This is uaually caused by the condenser fan not running. It's underneath the fridge behind the cardboard backing. Should be running when compressor motor is.
Could be caused by ice buildup on coils behind the back cover inside the freezer. This would be an auto defrost problem.

My whirlpool side-by-side is getting hot on strip between doors but everything seems to be working fine. Is there a solution? What if it becomes extremely hot??

It will not become extremely hot. It is heated by a thing called a mullion heater. It warms the area so it doesn't sweat and mold in the summertime. It is perfectly normal.

Ge 36" MONOGRAM with bottom freezer, very hot on back inside wall

Make sure that the condenser coil is not dirty. If so clean it. Have you actually seen the fan in the back of the unit running? It has 2 fan motors. One on the inside of the freezer and one on the back of the unit. The one on the back not working will cause it to get very hot and so will dirty coils.

Refridgerator heating up on outside

There are 2 or 3 things that would cause this. first make sure the condenser coils are not plugged with dust (vacumn or blow them out) next check to make sure the fan that cools these coils is running, (this is the most likely problem). if both of these check out ok then you would need to check to make sure your interior lights ar going off when the doors are closed as these will add extra heat and cause the center rails to run hot. last and most uncommon would be a freon system problem.
To clean the coils pull the refrig from the wall, remove compartment cover, and then you will see a round spiral shaped coil. the fan is located on the left end of this coil.

fyi there is a hot gas freon line that runs in between the doors to prevent exterior sweating. when poor or no air flow problems for the condenser coil exist it causes this area to become hotter.
One more thing. if you do determine that the condenser fan motor is bad you can put a normal house fan blowing on to the coil to help cool this area down until you can get the unit repaired.
If you need any further assistance leave me a comment here and I'll gladly get back to you. Thanks Peyton
