Question about Dell Latitude D630 Notebook

1 Answer

Screen crazies One day I was using my laptop and checking my email (but didn't open anything, so I don't think it's a virus) and my screen started to display normally, but with some pixels replaced by just green ones. It was a general pattern of vertical lines. Since then, the problem has escalated to much bigger proportions. Sometimes when I turn it on the screen is JUST blue/green vertical lines! When I can get it to work, it will struggle and the screen will flicker pixel patterns of random array/color until it either recovers, restarts, or shuts down. It has given me "display driver has stopped working but has recovered" several times, along with the imfamous "blue screen of death" that my computer has an "uncorrectible hardware error". I wanted to fix the problem without taking it somewhere, but I haven't had any luck. If there is something I can do, please help? If not, can I take it to a Best Buy for under warranty repair, or do I need to look somewhere else? I don't have much time before I go back to college!

Doesn't sound like a good situation. My knee **** reaction would be to reseat the cable and power to the LCD screen. If that doesn't work, I'd take advantage of the warranty. They might be able to get you up and running in short order.
Hope this helps!

I think I have a virus

I would download freeware MALWAREBYTES: http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In Safe Mode with Networking if necessary. In the install UNCHECK the Trial Pro Version, you want the freeware version, run a FULL scan, delete ALL results, reboot normally. I use AVAST FREE 8.0.1489: http://www.fixya.com/answer/answerpageslideview.aspx?ctg=8&thid=18108057 Haven had a Virus in years. Give it a try, it's always rated high in Anti Virus and it's free! First, of course, you have to remove McAfee with the McAfee removal Tool found on the McAfee website.

When i turn on my laptop it ask for a password in blue and then there is a blinking curser and black screen it wont do anything after that unless i press f2 reapeatedly or f12 but i cant fix nothing on the...

There are two types of password:
1. BIOS password. To remove the BIOS password, the solution is, remove the BIOS battery. Location of the BIOS battery, the bottom of the laptop. So you have to unscrew the bottom of the laptop, find the BIOS battery and release approximately 7 seconds, then plug it back. Then, turn on the laptop, enter the BIOS by pressing F2, do the setting the date, time, etc.

2. Password Log on. When turning on the laptop, and log on, then we are asked to enter a password, but we never give password to log on. However, when we enter the password, always fails, it means the virus-infected operating system (operating system has been controlled by a virus). These cases often I meet, the Windows XP operating system is infected with the virus. The solution is to reinstall the operating system. Repair operating system, or breaking into password virus, I've tried, but always failed. So, the best solution is to reinstall the operating system.

If you are using Windows 7, you can fix with, insert the Windows operating system CD, then boot from the CD Room. Solutions you can do:

1.
Boot from CD Room, select Next - select Repair your computer - Next - select System Image Recovery

2. Boot from CD Room - select Next - select Install now - check the "I accept the license terms" - Next - select Custom (advanced). Then, select the drive where you installed windows - Next. Wait for your operating system install process to complete. Then enter your user name, etc.

After entering the desktop, don't open drive C, D, E, F, because the drive is still infected with the virus. All you have to do is, connect your laptop to the Internet, download anti-virus. You can use free anti-virus (Avira or AVG), then anti-virus updates. After the update is complete, do a virus scan, drive C, D, E, F. If a virus is detected, Primary action = repair, Secondary action = delete.

After drive C, D, E, F clean from viruses, you can open the drive C, D, E, F. You don't have to worry about losing data, because Windows 7, will backup your data in a folder Windows.old. In Windows.old folder, there are three folders: Program files, Users, Windows. Data stored in My Documents, can be found in the Users folder.

Just replaced the screen on my acer aspire one happy netbook but I made a big mistake and didn't take out the battery, now when I start it up the fan just comes on then it switches off with out...

There is no logical reason for your problem. I think that there is a problem at the connections you made replacing the screen. Try to check all these connections again. Check also the connectors nearby for accidentaly removing a power cable. Also check for missing or lost screw; some might be used as ground connectors.

Hi

Sir as you describe the problem i don't think it has to do anything with overheating. Only this is open the LCD panel and check to make sure if the cable is connected to the LCD firmly, normally because we use the laptop a little rough the cable connecting to LCD from the motherboard normally get loose. And also do not forget that LCD replacement is also not ruled out here.

My computer will not start after the toshiba screen comes up. The screen is black with a blinking cursor

That might be caused with a lot things maybe RAM, maybe a corrupted OS, or might be a loose connection of the hard drive, maybe a virus or a malware. If you can go safe mode( by pressing f8 during boot up)run your anti virus from there if that didn't work try your system restore. If that didn't work try removing your RAM and replace it (you must have a back up RAM at least for testing purposes). If that didn't work also try removing your Hard Drive. Remove it carefully then carefully re install it.(Remember to pull out the battery and the charger before removing your Hard Drive and RAM for safety precautions) If neither of the above worked, then clean installing your OS is your last option.
Good Day.

I would reboot into safe mode, then run your anti-virus/anti-spyware software again, then try rebooting in regular mode and see if that fixes the issue. It sounds like it could be a hardware issue, though... possibly a loose connection or faulty screen, if the virus/spyware search doesn't pan out.

Hi
Do you think one of the emails you opened with the attachment ma have had a Trojan Virus attached to it??
What type of Anti Virus Software are you running on the Computer. I would start with a full scan of your computer to include the hard drive and see if the Antivirus Software identifies anything, if not I would do a backup of the computer and then wipe and reinstall the operating system.
If your computer contracted a virus they are sometimes very hard and costly to remove.
