Ravege is correct, try to clean it first with some canned air.

If that doesnt work then follow the steps mentioned, however use caution.. Some companies actually glue the fans down to the proccessor, ive come across it more than once. If the fan does not come off easily then do not yank and tug on it to hard, you may cause alot of damage to you cpu.

I suffered with the very loud xps 200 for over two years. I then tried to remove the front vent to allow more air access to the front fan. When i did this i broke the little plastic stick that allows the power button to turn the computer on. So after that, I had to remove the side panel and stick a pointy object inside to turn it on.

I decided to buy a new case which i found someone was selling on eBay. Turned out it was the case for the 5100c which is the same exact model of case but had something different which when i took the insides of the xps and transferred it to this case. THE NOISE WAS GONE! It's now a very, very quiet machine. I then was able to switch the nameplate and so it still says it is what it is. An XPS and not a 5100c!

on the top of the fan should be 4 screws unscrew them and remove plug there you go then go buy an ew one and replace

HOW EVER i would just go buy some compressed air and try to blow the fan out first and clean it up so no dust or anything is in it then while your in there blow some of the air into the power supply to get the dust and stuff out of there

And blow ot the entire computer while your there this should all be done atleast 1time a month .......

How do i fix xps aio 2717 loud fan

load fan is usually because the computer is getting too hot inside.

This may be due to blocked cooling vents or when you are playing a high end 'shoot em up' game ...

If the fan is making more of a 'grinding sound' than just a 'whoosing'; sound, it's a bad fan (bearings shot). It's an easy replacement on a desktop, don't know about an all-in-one (look on Dell site for a 'service manual' if it's not obvious how to take the case appart)

PS watch out for Dell's 'custom' fan pin-out and non-standard fan power connectors (that's how they can get away with charging 5x the normal price for a replacement :-) )

Greetings, My Dell Inspiron 530S has a small

I did not look up the manual for this one. But most computers have a flashing light when the hard drive is accessed. When the drive is accessed you can hear it to. So looks to me you have a good working computer. If the sound of a hard disk is loud, you are in trouble. You should start making backups of everything if you did not do that before. If it is really just the fan, you should clean the fan and the inlet (outlet) of the airflow. most fans will accumulate dust and that will influence the warming up of the processor (your Dual-core E2160) causing the fan to run faster and faster, not capable to cool the processor enough. Often you can blow out the dust, without opening the computer, but if there stays dust in the commuter and you are not technical enough, please ask a technician to clean pup the compete airflow.

Pulled out old dell xps 200 and it is so loud i can hear it from the next room think its is the fan a lot of complaints dell support page but no solutions. Help!

If it is clean, free of dust, the blades are not damaged. If you can get to it, a LITTLE silicon spray on the spindle, maybe spray some in the cap an apply with a Qtip or a toothpick, you get the idea. OR, if all else fails, replace it.

Noisy computer fan

If its a loud "whirring" noise almost need to replace that's about to fail. if it's a vibration type of noise, you should try tightening the screws first...if it's coming from processor fan, replace it before you fry your processor...

It's making an extremely loud noise it may be the fan but i'm not sure :)

Good day. What you can do too resolve this issue is to clean your fan from dust.. Usually the fan sucks in dirt while keeping your system cool, overtime this dust clogs your fan causing a loud noise. You can also check your hard drive because defective or hard drives that have problem causes scratching noise as well. Hope this information help you a bit. Have a great day.

For our Dell Optiplex GX 520 Desktop, Very loud noise is coming from fan, we tried to change the fan and even updated bios, but still the problem continues.

Hi, I am Steve, lets get you some help
When you say you tried to change the fan I am guessing you did not manage to.
The computer has very few moving parts inside it so not much that can cause noise.
You have 2 real options
  • It is coming from the speakers/sound jack and something is wrong with the sound card. Cheek this by unplugging the speakers.
  • The fan is is the other option - firstly clean the fan and the air vents to see if that helps - if not replace the fan assembly.

Hope this helps.

PC is very loud, thought it was the hard drive purchased another hard drive and it is still loud. Has been this way for quite some time.

The only other item that makes noise without physically doing anything, are the fans. You will have anywhere from 3 to 5 fans.
you can get long piece of paper and twirl it into a long tube and stick it where the fan spins. when the fan stops and the noise stops, you know which fan it is.

Check your cdrom, you might have a cd in there which causes the drive to spin, take it and see if that makes a difference.

Loud whirring sound

Three things spin in a computer; the hard drive, the optical drive and the fan. If there are no disks in the optical drive (open it[them]), listen close, if the noise is from the front--- think hard drive, if it is in the back--- think fan. If it is in the front, back up all your data NOW. If it is in the back you need to replace the fan, (or perhaps just clean it) before the heat fries your motherboard.

Multi speed fan on Gateway too loud..

You may have more than one fan.
The fan in the power supply may not be replaced, but you can replace the switch mode power supply with a newer model that has a larger fan that is very quite.
The same goes for the second fan (if you have one) that is inside the case.
Most computer suppliers have better designed and quiter fans.

Loud noise

Typical problem in most computers, the fan is experiencing a "burn out." This means there is either something caught in the fan causing it to create noise, or the motor is going bad. there are two fixes for this problem.
1) open you computer's case according to its manual and remove the system cooling fan and give it a thorough cleaning.
2) you may need to replace the cooling fan with its recommended replacement model.

Hope this helps!
