I have an 2.4L Audi A6 multitronic 2007 model which is binding rear wheels. I have had the master cylynder changed, discs cahnged, both rear calipers changed, rear break pads changed and the boost also changed. After all this work, I am told by the mechanic working on the car that the car at times does not break at all. At first it was binding, but now I am told the brakes are not holding in certain instances. What could be the problem and how do I resolve it?

If you have had all them parts changed and its binding one moment then not working correct. the possible problem can be the abs unit, when you apply the brakes the abs controls the pressure. if the vale in the abs unit is faulty you can get this problem and worse. you may not even get a code as the coil is still fine is just its stuck. i would have this part checked or replaced.

SOURCE: 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 rear brakes

Hi joelalthomas, if they replaced your brakes and you never even made it home they had better warranty the work and as for the "it was a common problem on 2002-2004 trucks" well check for Chevy recalls as this is a safety issue that would have been corrected at no expense to the vehicle owner, do a little more research my friend and let me know what happens, I will check around a little as well in the meantime I would find a new garage.Do not pay any more as you said your brakes worked fine until they worked on it good luck to you As for your 4x4 did you look at the left side when you did the right side? and were they bled off properly? you can visually check to see if the calipers are functioning

SOURCE: How To Change Rear Brake Pads on Audi A6 2006

Remove the tires, Remove the calaper bolts, (small heads on them 12mm or so) Remove calaper, Pads are setting in a holder. Lube new pads with litheum grease and place in holder. (look at old pads, one or both may have small metel tab on one end) If the new pads have the tab, put that pad where the old pad with the tab was. (ie. tab to the inside) Press pistion in with a 'C' clamp. If it won't go in easly, it may screw in. If the parking brake cable is hooked to the calaper, it probly screws in. Use large pliers to screw in calaper piston. Place calaper over pads and install bolts (lube bolts) Rember to pump brakes befor driving . to get a solid peddle.

Ouch, I suggest you check the fluid level of the transmission. If the fluid is OK, you need to ask around about a good gearbox repairer.

you cant check the Transmisson oil by yourself it is located under the vehicle. you will need a hoist to lift it up and then go by the transmission and check it there.

What makes Audi A6 c6 2.4 2007 multitronic gearbox not to change gears or even to move

gee a 20cent blown fuse is cheaper.'
check all fuses
then scan the PCM for tranny errors. using a scan tool.'
there are near 10 on car checks on any failing A/t seems you skipped all that.
USA car or not?
we oops no 2.4l here USA> so you are posted outside USA and didnt say so first.
ours has 7 solenoids in the box. tranny, and if the TCM is not happy how and can it shift right.? and EPC inside to set pressures right.
ours uses A6 Quattro; Trans. Code 6HP19A;
I say check all fuses., then scan the pcm/tcm
then ask for help with P07nn or P17nn errors called DTC's

the box is 100% electronic shifted, how can you forget to check status of the TCM./

How stop rear brakes binding ford bantam

If the disc brakes are binding this usually means one or both calipers are not releasing fully. This is usually a fault in the caliper, but can also be caused by such things as bad break hose, faulty master cylinder, or brake pedal not returning fully due to linkage issues. Jack up rear of car and put it on stands, try to turn each rear wheel to see which is binding. Both? check brake hose for interior rubber breakdown or master for failure to fully release.

Where audi Q7 starter relay location

Alright it gets complicated...
I'm assuming you have a 4L (2005-2015) model.
It will be in the under bonnet (hood) relay panel.

It can be any two of five relays depending on engine and year!
For petrol engine models up to June 2009 it's relays A1 and A2.
For petrol engine models from June 2009 it's relays A5 and A6.
For diesel engine models (3.0 and 4.2) it's relays A5 and A6.
For diesel engine models (6.0 V12) it's relays A2 and A4.

For all fuse and relay information (RHD & LHD) see here:

How do you change front brake pads on an Audi A6 2006

How to change front brake pads & rotors (brake disc) on 2006 Audi A6:

Atention!!!
Don't disconnect any brake line from caliper!
Don't disconnect any ABS sensor!
For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:

1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Remove brake carrier from wheel bearing housing (two ribbed bolts). 125 Nm
7. Remove brake disc from wheel hub.
8. Install brake carrier on wheel bearing housing. Tightening torque for two ribbed bolts = 125 Nm.
9. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
10. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
11. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
12. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
13. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
14. Install both caps.
15. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

Rear brake replacement

hi to get the pads in you did screw the calipers pistons all the way back and you should have backed the hand brake cable off as well then adjusted the cable afterwards problem with self adjusting calipers is you can adjust the handbrake cable and the brakes are ok until driven then they can bind so try backing the adjustment off on the handbrake [should really change both calipers as a pair to keep the axles brake balance but this is not anything to do with the brakes binding] best of luck paul
