I was wondering if anyone could help me with a
monitor problem. Every once in a while I will be
working on my computer and the monitor will
momentarily lose power. By this I mean it will
turn off and back on within a couple of seconds.
It happens every few hours of use. I am running a
Gateway performance 800, with an Nvidia Riva Tnt2
M64 based graphics card on a Gateway EV700
monitor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

that arena of video display. The newest, and not yet operative,
transmission is digital.

down there generic list of possible problems. I finally gave in to the
guy and bought a new surge protector (figured I would try a $20 surge
protector before a $170 hardware upgrade). So far so good, but if it
happens again I will return it. Thanks for all of the information.

called GW and they replaced the monitor with a rebuilt EV-700. It may not be
the best monotor on the market, but it suffices for me. I'll upgrade when
the time comes - probaly in a another couple of years. Nothing lasts for
ever and so I expect to budget for replacement monitors every 3-4 years just
like I do with my home TVs.
I wonder if analog TVs have (or will have) an inherently longer lifr span
than digital TVs?

luck with Sony's. I bought an RCA 19" color console set back in the 70's
that lasted into the 90's. I only got rid of it because it was so old.

Have you checked all power chords? And tried another power group, maybe it
is not even the monitor itself.
But that said, this might well be the monitor, and you should get a
replacement from Gateway if it is (and in warranty). Don't forget you can
still upgrade the monitor's warranty in the first year. Not a bad thing,
since monitors can fail, being complex, high power electrical devices.
You will get 30 days of warranty on a replacement monitor if you are about
to be out of warranty on the part. (yes, this can be a refurbished one, I
suppose Doug would just have thrown it away, wouldn't you Doug? You could
make a nice mountain out of it)

If you are under warrantee get ready for them to send you another
piece of junk as a replacement. If you're out of warantee,
I hope your trash collector takes monitors.

Also send a copy to your state attorney general and let them know
complaints have been filed in many states and the AG of South Dakota
and Gateway have done NOTHING yet.
Make sure in your letter that you detail it as much as possible.
On the letter to the Attorney General of SD make sure you state that
you want your letter considered in tandem with that of Doug Srock.
You are claiming defective EV700 Monitor for Recall.
