Question about Printers & Copiers
Before wasting a lot of time, the best way to trouble shoot ink problems is to try installing a new cartridge and see if it works. If it does, focus on the
cleaning/diagnosing of the old cartridge and not the printer.
Generally, most newer printers when unable to print a particular color can be fixed by simply (1) switching out the ink cartridge with another cartridge, (2) cleaning the base of the cartridge and the corresponding copper contacts on the casing with rubbing alcohol or a damp paper towel and patting them dry, or (3) cleaning ink from the well below the cartridges (where the head parks when the printer is not in use.
That said, it does depend on the type of printer you're using. Some printers, like Cannon inkjet and bubblejet printers use an ink nozzle in the casing which was supposed to keep ink costs lower, but it had a tendency to cause clogs of ink in the printer. This is one reason most ink jet printers, like HP, have opted with installing all the necessary components in the cartridge itself.
If you have the other type of printer, where the ink cartridge has what looks like a hole on the bottom of the ink instead of a copper surface, focus on cleaning the bottom of the casing where the black ink is installed. You can do this with a cotton swab and some alcohol. Dip the swab in the alcohol and carefully move it in a circular pattern in the bottom center of the casing. This should hopefully clear the dried ink away.
Hopw this helps and remember to vote. :D
