If the plastic blue clip on your Oreck Magnesium vacuum cleaner has broken, you will need to replace it to keep the bag securely attached to the vacuum. Here are the steps to replace the clip:
Locate the broken clip. It is usually located on the underside of the vacuum, near the bag opening.
Remove the broken clip by gently prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver or a similar tool. Be careful not to damage the surrounding area.
Obtain a replacement clip. You may be able to purchase a replacement clip from an Oreck dealer or online retailer.
Attach the replacement clip to the vacuum. The clip should snap into place and hold the bag securely.
Test the clip to make sure it is properly attached and holding the bag securely.
bose 901s have 9 drivers at .75 ohms each wired in series, one of the drivers probably went south, and if one fails they all don't work. open the box and remove the drivers marking the wires for polarity(VERY IMPORTAINT) check with multimeter which driver (speaker) is open or over 1 ohm resistance, that's your culprit. take it to a recone shop for repair or order the replacement driver from bose. also check the condition of the surrounds, as after 30+ years they all probably need replacement. any competent speaker repair shop should be able to help at a cost of around $25 per driver. Also make sure you ALWAYS use the bose eq with these speakers.
Speakers have a kind of cardboard like membrane that the wires attach too and a magnet that are used to create sound. The cardboard like membrane can become worn, brittle or might be defective when you got them but if it breaks loose from the magnet or the surrounding frame that it is attached to it can vibrate very easily and create unwanted sounds. There is really no way to repair this that I know of. To make sure you might try the speakers with some other kind of system or computer but I think they're probably broken and might need to be replaced.
you will need to replace the rubber surrounds on you sub and the grill it will not be easy if youre doing it for the first time, you should take it to a store where they do speaker repairs and get them to replace the rubber surrounds and the grill you can replace yourself.
Looks like a broken copper braid that links the speaker terminal to the cone (from there on it goes to the coil which is underneath the cone).
Check the speaker connection terminals (near the magnet), you will notice that each terminal has a copper braid wire going from that terminal to the speaker cone.
Inspect both braid wires carefully at each end (near the speaker terminal and near the speaker cone), there will either be some damage to the braid at one or more of these four locations or the braid could be actually broken at any of these spots.
The braid can actually be resoldered at the point where it's damaged or broken - this task will require good soldering skills, mainly because this kind of braid wires are difficuld to solder (they are a bit difficult to clean because of their structure and solder won't attach itself well to oxydized copper), but also because some speaker cones are made of plastic which may melt if you overheat it with a soldering iron.
Besides that, when resoldering is being done, only a very short portion of the braid should be wetted with solder because the solder point will become rigid when the solder cools down, and the braid needs to remain very flexible when the speaker operates (if it's too rigid or too short, damage to the speaker cone could occur or the braid could get broken again when the speaker will be playing at a loud volume).
Hope you can have it repaired, it can be done at home, but there are also speaker repair shops where you can get it done (i'm not sure about the prices though).
Anyway, the alternative is to replace the speaker itself.
If these are Cerwin Vega speakers or any other for that matter thay need to be refoamed. See a local speaker repair shop about refoaming. Dont use them till you get them refoamed. It is like the speakers suspension and stops the driver from going to far in its excursion.
Use the same gauge that is supplied for the rear. Probably 24 gauge.Do it with the power off. If the wires touch with the power on the rear output IC will blow. Good Luck
I just replaced mine on my 2002 Diamante LS yesterday. It really isn't that difficult. To get to the front door speaker you will need to remove the door trim panel. This is done by pulling out on the bottom part of the panel. I used a flathead screwdriver to help with the separation. Just be careful not to scratch anything.
There are 4 or 5 clips that lock the panel on to the door frame. After you have pulled the clips out you will want to lift up on the separated panel as it hangs on a rail adjacent to the window. Pull the panel out far enough to reach behind and disconnect the various wiring clips. They have quick disconnect fittings and come out easily. You will also need to disconnect the door interior light by rotating the base about a half turn to get it out of the removable panel.
Once you have removed the door panel you will have full access to the speaker frame mounting. It has a removable plastic frame that you screw the new speakers in to. It attaches to the door frame with 5 or 6 Phillips type screws. I found it easier to remove the mount and get it ready to accept my new speakers. I just srewed it back on before actually attaching the speakers.
While the dealer spec for door speakers on a Diamante is a 6 3/4" speaker, a 6 1/2" will work just fine if you have a drill to pre-drill new screw holes. Just line the new speaker up on the speaker mount, mark where the new holes should be and then go ahead and drill them. Make sure the drill bit isn't bigger the the screw. It is a machine type of a thread and is easy to self thread with a regular phillips screwdriver.
After you have the speaker mount ready to accept your new speaker you can go back to your car, screw the mount back on to the door frame. Next attach the two speaker wires to the back of the new speaker. White goes to the positive post. (You might need to change the fitting type to match the car wiring and the new speaker) You can get some quick connect friction fittings and put one on the end of each wire that attaches to the speaker. Walmart, Autozone, Radio Shack all have these as they are readily available.
With the speakers in place, just reverse you installation of the door panel. I found it was easier to roll the window down so I could hang the panel back on the channel. Line up the clips and the bottom of the door, push in and you will feel and hear them engage. Once you are sure they are lined up correctly, go ahead and give it a good push where each clip attaches to make sure its on tight.
