Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hello, recently I my computer has trouble turn on. All the other plugs (printer, monitor, speakers and mouse) can turn on but the computer hard drive can not. I have tried turning the power switch on and off (and also shake the hard drive a bit) and eventually the power for computer hard drive doesn turns on. What should I do to make the computer hard drive power to turn on when I want it, first time round?

- unplug everything form the back of the computer: power cable, mouse, keyboard, monitor, network cable & speakers, printer, camera (all usb)
- hold down power button for 10 secs (power cycle)
- plug in power, keyboard, mouse, network & monitor.. BUT NOT printer yet
- it it turns on, you can reconnect all other devices
- if it doesnt turn on still, call manufacturer or bring it to repair shop.. possible motherboard problem

Parts of computers and its function

Computer: A machine that processes information and performs computations.
Tower or CPU: The "box" or case that holds the parts that make up a computer: CPU, hard disk drive, floppy drive, memory chips, power supply, interface cards, etc.

CPU: Central Processing Unit, or "brains" of the Computer.
Monitor: An output display device (looks similar to a TV) in a computer system. You see information on the monitor's screen.
Screen: The viewing area on a monitor or the information or image displayed.
Disk Drive: A device that reads data from (input) or records data onto a disk for storage (output).
Hard Drive: The main device that a computer uses to store information. Most computers come with a hard drive, called drive C, located inside the computer case.
CD-ROM: ROM means Read-Only-Memory - you can only "read" information, not save. A CD can store a large amount of data including documents, photographs, software, and music (about 20 songs)
Mouse: A hand-held input device you roll on your desk to point to and select items on your screen. When you move the mouse, the mouse pointer on the screen moves in the same direction.
Speakers: Output device that produces sound and music when connected to the computer. Speakers come in different shapes and may even be in the monitor's case.
Headphones: Output device for listening that is held over the ears by a band worn on the head.
Microphone: Input device in which sound energy is changed into electrical energy for the sending or recording sound (your voice).
Scanner: Input device that reads copy as an image and digitally records the image.

How do you change the hard drive in an Emachine W3609?

how to Install a new hard drive
Do you have the original operating system on CD or DVD? also you need the new HD to be a "SATA" if you do read on

1. unplug all cables from computer (power, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, speakers, etc.) try to remove static from body and ground yourself.
2. place cpu on a confortable work table (if possible)
3. on the back of the cpu there is 2 screws that hold the side cover, remove those you may have to do both sides.
4. pull the cover towars the back of the cpu to remove.
5. there you would be able to see if you can remove the tray holding the hard drive or if you can get the hard drive out by itself
6. Unplug the 2 cables on the back of the hard drive (power and data)
7. There should be 2 screws on each side of the hard drive remove them.
8. Now pull the hard drive out of tray (that is a go)
9. insert new hard drive in tray and attach side screws
10. connect data and then power to hard drive (can go in in one direction only).
11. place both side cover (don't forget screws) and make sure the covers go in to the tabs so it would not rattle.
12. connect mouse, keyboard, speaker, monitor and power.
that is it
now you just have to reload your operating system with your cd's turn pc on, insert cd's and restart computer, you may have to press on/off switch to turn it off or ctr+alt+del to restart. if the cd is in it may restart and ask you to press a any key to start from cd if not you have to change boot order from BIoS

if it works for you don't forget to rate
me
thx

Acer desktop mouse, keyboard not functioning, monitor also not wor

If there is no display on the monitor, then your computer is not sending a video signal to the monitor.
This could be caused by a bad video card or some other hardware problem. I would open the case and disconnect all the devices (hard drive, CD, etc. Leave only the CPU, memory, and video connected. You could leave the keyboard and mouse connected too.
If your computer then starts, you can start to add devices (after turning the computer off) one at a time.
If this doesn't work, then you are looking at replacing the motherboard or just the video card if that is possible.

Computer will not load up - frozen on acer start screen?

Are you sure the monitor is plugged into the correct port? Also, check the monitor cable for bent pins. A small move shouldn't make this kind of difference. Eliminate that power strip and just plug the computer and monitor into an outlet.

Logitech r-20 speakers

Hi again andrew63,

There are two possible methods of adjusting the bass and treble output to your Logitech R20 speakers:
1. Hardware - if you feel like experimenting or working with electronic gadgets, you can connect an external preamp with tone control or graphic equalizer between the PC and the input of the speakers/amp; and/or (probably the easiest)
2. Use a software (to listen to your music files/medium) that has a virtual equalizer such the old MusicMatch Jukebox or as an add-on/plug in.

Btw, thanks for asking me to be a Tech Buddy.
