Most CPU fans come with the heatsink. Try not to buy a fan that comes with a grill over it. That slows the fan down & makes the fan work harder.

Good luck!

maybe you can put or add some thermal paste on the back of the processor by removing the heatsink that attach to the fan simply turn counter clockwise the four lock then pull out the heatsink with the fan remove all excess dried thermal paste replace it with a new thermal paste make sure that you put only a small amount of it, before replacing back the heatsink with the fan be sure that you already turn the lock to lock position before inserting it to the motherboard, now push one by one those lock gently, make sure its snap in place securely all four lock check for uneven on the heat sink before turning the computer on

I have an old gateway 7023ge computer and i wanted to find out the size of my cooling fans so i can replace them. i have 2 fans one front and one rear. they are both the same size.

Computer case fans for older computers were usually standard sizes of 80 millimeter or 92mm, maybe120mm. 25.4mm = 1 inch, so an 80mm fan is about 3 inches. Measure the diameter of the fan from the tip of one fan blade to the tip of the opposite fan blade. A 92mm fan is about 3 1/2 inches in diameter and a 120mm fan is about 4 3/4"

Again, these sizes are _nominal_, so whatever your measurement is closest to is what you need. You should be able to measure the rear fan from the outside back of the computer without taking anything apart.

Can I replace the CPU fan on my Gateway 2625

Yes you can as long as you know how to take it apart. There are no user access compartments like the RAMs, to remove it without taking the whole thing apart.

When i boot up the laptop i get a message 'Main Fan Error' the fan runs on start up then stops just before i get the error message. Fan will not restart... Joseph

Hi,

This message means that the fan on your CPU (processor) is failing or has failed. This is not good because if the fan on the CPU fails your CPU will overheat and cause your machine to lock up and become non-functional till it cools down and then the same cycle will repeat till the fan is replaced.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

What size is the rear case fan on a gateway dx420s

Gateway DX420S has a case that can handle either 8X8cm or 10X10cm. Take a look at this part of the picture

If you want to be sure just take measurements from one screw hole to the next one.
