After doing my own investigation regarding this issues I came to the conclusion that there is no only one explanation to the subject, in fact you might have to try several steps in order to fix the problem. I would like you to try this steps:

1- Scan your laptop for viruses by using any anti-virus of your choice. If you don't have one, simply go to www.cnet.com/download and below you will have all the different brands available, some of them are free (AVG and Avira) or you can purchase Norton 360.

2- If your computer is running with Windows Vista or Windows 7 before booting, removed your battery then, boot up your computer. Once you are in right click on desktop > personalize > and scroll down where it said Windows Basic theme. According to Acer, Aero design witch it has to do with the cool design of the bar and special effect, can cause the computer to crash or turn off without reason.

3- Try replacing the RAM memory, located on the bottom in a special compartment. You can pulled out by removing one to two screw and the cover out.

Its possible that the program is not compatible or wont run in windows 7. for legacy softwares, you can try microsofts XP emulator (XP Mode). you can call dell to check if your computer is cable of using such application. you can download the XP mode from HERE
