Hey, your Notebook is among the one which is having some known issues if it is purchased in US. Check with the Product Number of the Notebook which should be printed on a white sticker at the bottom of the Notebook indicated with P/N.

Try finding it from the ones listed in the link below :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01300427&dlc=en

Also, you can find more information about this known issue from the link below :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277&dlc=en

Contact HP Chat Support since the Notebook is out of warranty and inform them that the Notebook is out of warranty.

You should be provided with free repair options. If not, provide the link I had provided above.

All the best.

I turn on my laptop it goes to the default red and blake COMPAQ screen but there's two beep then in the top left hand corner it says 101-I/O ROM Error Joshua Jograntben@yahoo.com

Hello, Joshua.

More than likely, that error is referring to a hardware error, such as a network card.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP.

If not under warranty, contact a local repair shop for an estimate.

Hope this helps.

Microsoft says to Ignore the problem, and the adapter will continue to work correctly. If the message is really annoying maybe you can try turning off IPv6.
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

right click your network card>properties
uncheck the IPv6 box
that'll turn off IPv6-then just disable the adapter driver

Bad screen?

The backlight failed. This will happen eventually. When it's happened to me, the quote to fix it has been around $200 depending on the size of the screen.

If you've had it for less than a year, you can contact HP, and they will fix it for free. Some retailers (like Costco) extend the warranty for an extra year as well.

Please Help with a system recovery on a HP pavilion a1253w!

The reason the cd recovery did not work is that it was made for some other HP model.
On the unit you are trying to recover, reboot the computer and press F10 . several times. You should see a recovery menu. Select the type of recovery that will format and recover the unit to OEM defaults.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

When trying to do a Sytem recovery, I get an Error Message.

Recovering the system without using Windows
  1. Disconnect all peripherals and internal non preinstalled devices from the PC, except the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. When the initial blue HP screen appears, press the F10 key repeatedly until a recovery menu appears. The progress indicator that first appears does not indicate that a recovery is taking place. The progress indicator represents the time before the recovery process is started.
  4. When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform a normal, non-destructive recovery.
  5. To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.
  6. After the System Recovery is complete, and the computer starts successfully, update the computer software as follows:

HP Laptop Pavilion 2000 is on but screen is black

If you are using a AMD based Notebook, this may be one of the simptoms identified by HP earlier.
So, if your notebook is having AMD Processor, I recommend you to get the Product Number of the Notebook and check if it is listed in the weblink below :
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01300427

If yes and if your Notebook is less than 2 years old, you can contact HP Support and find the options to get a free repair.
Unfortunately, if your Notebook is equipped with Intel Processor, all you need to do is check the warranty and contact nearest Authorized Service center if the Notebook is out of warranty or contact HP for options.
