The spring on the Speedy Green 1000 is more of a plastic bow piece. The accordion shaped piece should run through the "bridge" that is riveted to the hopper and then the bow piece fits into it. It is possible that the plastic bow may have worn out and may need to be replaced. You should give Scotts a call @ 1-800-543-8873 and see if we have a replacement available for you.
Yeah...all this is is a way for Scotts to sell parts. All the solutions are to call Scotts. How about one that says how to fix the problem. That is all I want to know. I'm sure I have a couple of parts around my garage that I could jury-rig a fix without paying for minutes to call Scotts and then listen to endless menus and then pay through the nose for a 10 cent part.
You can easily fix it with 2 elastics and 2 s hooks. Drill holes in the 2 plastic supports on the back side edges and put s hooks in holes, attach an elastic to each and hook around the bolt where the adjustment cable attaches to to the slider at the bottom of the hopper.
