I am having the same problem with the ethernet controller not being recognized or that it has no driver. when you go to device manager the ethernet controller and pci modem under the "other devices" tab both have question marks by them and apparently arent installed. i as well had reinstalled xp and the drivers off the disk that came with the computer but still have no connection..................and by the way the link for the driver for this "problem" isnt the one you need, so which one is the one i need?

Missing or incorrect drivers for your Ethernet Card, reinstall them. If you are using wireless, WInXP does not support wireless until Service Pack 2.

since the network card is built onto the motherboard reinstalling the driver would be the best first option.

HERE is the link to the driver.
Broadcom827.exe - Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet driver Version: 8.27.1.0
Supports: Windows XP
Note: This is the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet driver for use with the Big Lake, Cortez, and Putton Bay motherboards in Windows XP.

I would try that first.

Gateway 310 s doesn't recognize network card

you may have to get access thru ethernet or dial up until all updates have been installed thru windows. After all updates try the network card again.

Can anyone tell me how to uninstall ethernet card in dell optiplex 320? I also need to know where to download and install the ethernet card. I can't go to ipconfig and see my ip address. The tech sup...

The ethernet card on the Dell Optiplex 320 is integrated into the motherboard and can not be physically removed. However, a new ethernet card could still be installed into one of the available PCI slots and can be purchased at just about any computer parts retailer.

Before you jump to replacing the card I would recommend trying a few things yourself to fix the card. Here are some suggestions:
One thing to try is disabling and then re-enabling the device through the device manager.
Another thing to try, go to the command prompt where you did the ipconfig, and type
IPCONFIG /release
then type
IPCONFIG /Renew

Those two commands have fixed many "dead" ethernet cards.
If those commands don't work and fix your problem I recommend giving this utility a try:
WinSock XP Fix
Does the computer recognize that there is an ethernet card in the system? Have you had any viruses or spyware/malware on the machine recently?

Computer not recognizing ethernet cable

it's the card itself. It probably went bad. Go to Walmart and pick one up for about $15. I had this happen a few weeks ago, All cables are good just wouldn't connect to internet. It's the ethernet card itself, they do go bad.

I had to reinstall windows xp. Now I cannot connect to the internet.

Make sure the driver of the Ethernet Card on your computer is installed. You check it under Device Manager

Right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > Network Adapters (click the +). If you see Other Devices with yellow exclamations like Ethernet Controller, that's it. You need to run the Motherboard CD to automatically install the ethernet driver.

I would like to get a ethernet port installed to my modem

If you do not have ethernet port into your computer then purchase the ethernet card of 10/100 mbps and just fix it into the P.C.I slot of your computer, If you are using the operating system Win xp then it will probably automaticaly install the software(firmware) for your ethernet card, and perchance if the software is not installed automatically when the P.C is turned on then you may install the firmware provided with the Ethernet card.

Internet connect is not working

It could be a problem with the card or port itself, but it could also be a problem with the drivers. Check to see if the proper drivers are loaded for your network card - for example, if there was a recent network driver update download from Microsoft, uninstall it.

If this is not the case, try unistalling the drivers entirely, and then reinstall them from a fresh copy either from the original CD or downloaded from the vendors web site.

If that does not help, it could be a problem with Windows - I'm guess it's Windows XP? If something has messed up the TCP stack, Dial-A-Fix would be able to rebuild the stack for you.

If none of these help, then a physical failure is probably the problem. You could then replace the NIC (network interface card), or if onboard (that is, part of your motherboard and can not be removed), disable it in the BIOS, and add a PCI NIC card to the machine.
