It would be better with Netgear as the setup is easier but I go with Linksys because of the price.

Home wireless internet

All routers are good routers however Linksys routers are really good routers and usually are a good price you can connect up to 8 wireless devices on most routers including your wireless phone. Also the range is usually around a 100 yards. however like I said most routers allow you to connect many wireless devices, but here is a list of good routers.
Linksys, Netgear, Dlink, Asus Hope this helped

I have an apple router. Periodically, I cannot connect to Internet. I must unplug router and modem and replug. Things can be fine for days, then it happens again. My cable provider has checked all lines. I...

It's a common problem with wireless routers, especially with certain ISP's, there's several theories about why this happens including cheap parts and software on the routers but it can be much worse if it's over a cable connection. Possibly because the MTU is higher on cable networks than wireless ones. This issue doesn't seem to affect wired connections to the routers as much. ie you may still get a working wired connection even if the wireless isn't working.

Certain makes are known to behave this way, with certain ISP's. eg in england there's a cable company called virgin media, belkin routers really don't seem to like them, but netgear seem to work much better, which is probably why virgin recommend netgear and will only supply netgear routers themselves.

Try changing the channel id if it's wireless, as there may be a lot of interference around you and this may or may not have a bearing on this issue. If that doesn't help then ask your isp what make they recommend as they should have an idea of what will work best, at least the tech support dept should.

In my opinion the best makes of routers are netgear and linksys. I also like belkin although they aren't as good as they used to be, and as mentioned can suffer from this problem quite badly in some cases. As you are with a cable

You will never completely eradicate this problem, all wireless routers will need resetting now and again, but it should be weeks or preferably months between each time. Cisco routers may be more reliable but they're business routers and are very expensive, and probably a bit more complicated to setup.

ps. I used to work for virgin media as tech support.

you need a wireless ethernet bridge(like wet54g/wet610n) which will grab signals wirelessly from u're primary router wrt54g,& then a ethernet cable from wireless bridge will be connected to one of the lan port of u'rs netgear router(otherwise u will not be able to do file & printer sharing between 2 routers)Remember, the ip address of all 3 devices shold be of same class.

I have a netgear ds116 hub and i want to set up a linksys router

Here's what you can do. Don't connect the Linksys router yet to the hub. Connect 1 computer directly to the Linksys router. Access the router's setup page of the Linksys router thru http://192.168.1.1

It will prompt you for username and password. No username and password is admin.

Look for Local IP Address or LAN IP Address. Change the LAN or Local IP Address of the Linksys router to 192.168.5.1 then click on Save Settings at the bottom. Right after saving the settings, unplug the power of the Linksys router, connect it to the hub and it should be good to go.

Netgear Wireless Router won't work with my Linksys wired router.

As asked above, why would you want the wired router and the wireless router on the same network?

The direct answer to your question(s) is found on Netgear's website. http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/965/kw/wpn824/r_id/166

The key is to turn off the Netgear DHCP, and give it an address that is unreachable by the Linksys DHCP ie if the Linksys gives out IP addresses starting at 100 or 101, you set your IP address to 99, turn off the DHCP, and plug it into the network NOT using the WAN port, ever. We tend to start at 251 or 221 just for clarity's sake.

The point is you answered your own question. The Netgear wired and wireless works fine. One piece of equipment and better reporting statistics....what are you missing?
