Playing DVD's When I go to play a DVD it won't play because it's in the wrong region and says I have to reset it. But then it won't let me reset it when it tells me to reset it. It says I'm in region 8 and I need to be in region 1.

Do a Google search for "reset dvd region" and you will find a variety of software solutions to allow you to either reset the region or bypass it altogether.

DVD region trials has run out

To change the Region code on your DVD player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change.
If you want to play DVDs from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software (Passkey for DVD) that allows you to play DVDs from any region and Passkey for Blu-ray that allows you to play Blu-rays from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free From: -

DVD Region Locked to Region 3

Hi there.
You only get 5 turns to change the region code on a slimline DVD/RW, once its locked to a region thats it, the only way to get them five goes back again is to flash the firmware on the DVD/RW.
You will need to jot down the make and model of the slimline DVD and see if there is a firmware update for it.
NOTE: Flashing firmware with the wrong version can damage the DVD and render it useless.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Region setting on Acer Aspire 8920

Older DVD drives use RPC-1 firmware, which means the drive allows DVDs from any region to play. Newer drives use RPC-2 firmware, which enforces the DVD region coding at the hardware level. These drives can often be reflashed with hacked or Australia and New Zealand (hardware region coding prohibited by law in these countries) RPC-1 firmware, effectively making the drive region-free. However, this usually voids the warranty and can render the drive inoperable if something goes wrong... better contact your laptop manufacturer regarding this

DVD REGION CODE FIXED TO WRONG REGION

You can only do 5 resets of this for the life of the DVD drive.

Instead of resetting it, consider buying a piece of software that lets you disregard region settings, such as AnyDVD (google for it).
