How to reformat a window xp

first nsert the Windows XP disk, and turn off your computer...Turn on your computer...A screen will come up during the boot and tell you to press any key to boot from CD, (if not you will need to change the start up sequence in the BIOS). Press any key you like....Second, you are asked which file system to use, the FAT Filesystem or NTFS Filesystem. NTFS Filesystem is the newer and faster one, so use that. FAT would also limit you to small hard disks..It might take a while. Once everything is loaded, there will be a few options on the screen. The one you want says 'To set up Windows XP, press enter.' So select it and press enter.It might take a while. Once everything is loaded, there will be a few options on the screen. The one you want says 'To set up Windows XP, press enter.' So select it and press enter.Alternatively, if you just want to format a secondary hard drive you can go to 'My Computer', right click on the drive and press format and follow the instructions accordingly.

Win 32 is the generic name for all 32 bit Windows platforms and includes Windowes 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP and Vista.
This is one of the Major program enable for your Windows to function.

When i turn the computer on it says windows root 32 is corrupt or missing please reinstall but i cant get it to reinstall it the install menu does not pop up

You need to re-install it using your disc not when your on Windows enable for it to install. Here are the steps to install Windows back in your system.

  1. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.

    Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
  2. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
  3. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
  4. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows .
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows Setup.

Destructive recovery

Yes you can format the current partition your windows is on using the standard XP home disk and have a completly fresh clean XP install

If your starting the XP home CD in windows itself then you will get 2 options;
1 is to upgrade your current installation
2 is a 'New' installation

its the New installation you need...

If your starting the XP home CD from the CD boot menu [when you restard your PC] at the 3rd or 4th screen it will ask you the partition options;

1 is to 'Leave the current file system in tact'
2 is to 'Format (quick)'
3 is to 'Format'

you do not want option 1 that will keep all your old windows files etc [and the malware]

option 2 or 3 is what you need for a fresh install (2 is faster and will be fine for you)

If you need more help let me know...

I have 2 drives C:\ and D:\ Im trying to reinstall my windows but my c drive would not allow me to do so. Instead I could only do so on D:\ Now I have three options during bootup: c:\Windows, D:\Windows...

Hi.

Insert the xp CD in the drive.
Where it asks you to choose a location to install xp, just delete both the partition. (default button D)
Then make two fresh partition and install xp in the first one (that is C).

This will solve your problem.

Compaq Deskpro EN contant restarting when attempting to load XP

Last time this happened to me, I had to reformat and reinstall windows. I tried all those modes, and I even tried the windows repair. None of that worked, I just did a complete new install. All of the data will be lost, if you do this.

My advice, if you need some of the data on that hard drive, you need to hook the drive up to another computer and backup what you need.

Or buy another hard drive, install windows on the new drive. Now slave the old and backup the data.
