Question about Toshiba Satellite R10-S802TD Tablet PC

1 Answer

Event repetition, as if key stuck

Reasonably regularly (a few times a day), the laptop will start repeating an event until I press Alt.

e.g.
(1) when booting, before loading Windows, it gives the keyboard buffer full sound repeatedly.
(2) I had a dialog box open when I got called away from my desk. When I returned, it was repeatedly opening & closing one of the drop-down lists.
(3) using the laptop in tablet mode, I pasted some copied text via the menus, using Edit > Paste. It then proceeded to repeatedly paste the text.
(4) I inserted a new page into a Visio. It then - well, you guessed it - repeatedly created pages.

Any ideas? A full virus scan using AVG Free found nothing. Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Version 2002 SP 2.

Thanks in advance.

How do i reset my asus transformer tablet tf101 i have a blank screen will not turn on

Perform a soft or hard reset on your Asus Eee Pad Transformer Android tablet if it is not functioning correctly. Here's how.

Soft Reset

You would want to soft reset the device in the event that it has become frozen or unresponsive. To do so, press and hold the Power button on the top-left side of the device for about 10 seconds until the device powers off.

Hard Reset

A hard reset (also known as a factory reset) will clear all data and settings from the memory of the device and set it back to factory default settings. You can perform hard reset on the Asus Eee Pad using the Android OS menus or the hardware buttons.
Method 1 1. Power the Eee Pad off.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button on the left side of the device, then press and hold the Power button.
3. Continue to hold both buttons until a bootloader screen appears.
4. Wait for the prompt that says to "Press <VOL_UP>" then press the Volume Up button to start the process.
The Asus Eee Pad will complete the hard reset process and reboot into a factory default state.
Method 2 1. Open the Settings app.
2. Select Privacy.
3. Choose Factory data reset.
4. Select Erase tablet.
5. Select Erase everything.

Nook tablet will not turn on

Yes, press and hold the power button, for up to 30 seconds, or until the "N" logo appears on the screen.

If it does not, suggestions are that the battery is dead or not charging because the power cord itself is broken or frayed inside the cable and you will need to replace with either a B&N cable or a Micro USB cable.

It could also be the wall charger unit is no longer functioning, and this must be replaced.

I have so far replaced one wall charger and three USB cables, so this is a unnecessary common event with Nook

My sony viao pcgn505a is very slow when i open it. It has also a samok virus and very slow internet connection. Please help how to reformat it and where to get drivers for it. Thanks.

I would suggest try avoiding formatting. Because if you do that, then the next problem you will face is to find, download and install all the drivers.

If you are using the Genuine Windows operating system, then download 'Microsoft Security Essentials' for free from the Microsoft website. This should take care of your viruses.

Second get the latest Service pack provided by Microsoft and this should update the drivers.

And basic things, like removing unnecessary files, Defrag you hard disk, etc should also add up to the speed.

Taskmanager popup

Let's start as simple as possible:
Do you have a loose connection / glitch at the power-connector? Check and solder (link to manual for disassembly is further down in this document)

To me this looks like a stuck key (not necessary one on the keyboard):

create live-usb-ubuntu:
1. download and burn ubuntu 8.10 to cd.
2. boot _any_ computer with it, connect >1GB USB stick.
3. System --> Administration --> Install to live usb
4. Boot from live-usb-stick that you just created
5. open terminal (Applications --> Accessories --> terminal)
6. paste this: sudo apt-get install xev
7. paste this: xev
8. hover with mouse over white box
9. make sure not to press any keys or move the mouse. Now flip the screen or try to recreate a situation in which the task manager would pop up in windows.
10. what's the output in the terminal window? Try to pinpoint exactly how and when the events are generated.

There should be no event generated, when you physically flip the display (which means you don't have to replace the hinge).
Press every single key you can find on the laptop. Verify that each key generates exactly one event.

If you find that there is a series of events generated without any key pressed, try to clean the malfunctioning key. (Service manual for disassembly)

It might possibly be a broken hinge (20USD). Flipping the display and pressing soft keys (Q, rotate, e) does not generate events in xev. Any other button does.
