Question about Singer 7462 Mechanical Sewing Machine

3 Answers

I have a Singer Inspiration 4220 Sewing Machine. I was working on a quilting project last night, and everything was going fine, until I noticed that the thread on the underside of the fabric was very loose and loopy. I've since rethreaded my machine 5 times, checked my bobbin several times, and have played with my tension. I have the tension set on auto, which is what the manual instructed. My thread on the underside of the fabric still stitches loopy. What am I doint wrong?

Same exact problem I'm having!  Mine is a new machine.  So I'm not sure if I'm setting it up properly, but have tried every possible combination.  Very Frustrating!

I had the same problem....it wasn't the tension. I did not pull the thread through the proper slot in the bobbin. See step #5 on page 18 of the manual for the singer 7258.

You may also have a dull needle or one that is not big enough for the quilting thread to be punched through the quilt sandwich.

It's possible that there is foreign debris in the top tension assembly ,thread the machine and lower the presser foot and ensure that there is tension on the top thread

Yesterday, while machine quilting, I heard a clank. Now the feed dogs won't feed the fabric. The feed dogs seem to move back when I start sewing; it seems as if they stayed forward before...

Did you check to make sure the feed dogs weren't inadvertently dropped. Most sewists drop the feed dogs for free motion quilting or darning.

How can I replace bobbin case on Singer Inspiration 4220

Download the instruction manual free from the Singer Sewing Machine site, and go to page 62. It will show you how to reinsert your bobbin case.

The flat part goes UNDER the needle; there is a projection on the right side of the case towards the bottom that must rest against a silver part that is actually a cushion spring and prevents it from spinning. It's pictured in the manual.

It's helpful when reinserting it to insert it slightly clockwise of where it should go--that is, placing the flat part slightly to the right, then twisting it counterclockwise into the correct position, with the case's projecting resting against the spring.

What bobbin should be used for a singer inspiration moder 4220

Normally it is a #15 or 15J. Your manual should tell you or you can go online at singerco.com and look under support for a free download of you manual. I checked the Singer site and you may have to have a "surefit" bobbin that is exclusive to Singer. You can call them at 1-800-4singer
