Usually behind grille in front of unit. some of the newer units do have a small board in the refrigerator. there are plastic clips on the back of housing near the light bulb that can be easily pried out. if it is too hard to remove then that is not likely to be where it is.

Tt18hpxlt defrost timer

there is no defrost timer in this model,it is called an A.D.C. adaptive defrost control and is located in the refrige compartment just above and behind the cold control setting inside this plastic case, remove this case from the top of the refrigerator compartment and you will see a small printed circuit board, this is the A.D.C.

GE model #GSS201EMBWW is not defrosting, checked defrost heater and it was burned out. Replaced with new 2 heater design and now it burns all the time, which is most likely what burnt the other 1 out....

This is how the defrost works . I have NEVER found a defrost problem associated with a bad main control board since these computerized GE's came out in 2000 . Lots of thermistor problems , lying to the board , causing different problems .
Your GSS model refrig does not have a defrost timer . It works off of the main control board . Pull the refrig out and remove the 8 " x 10 " panel . Behind this panel , is the main control board . Unplug the refrig . Remove the BLUE plug from the board , with 3 larger wires going to it . Looking at the blue plug , the sequence will be wire1,wire2,space,wire3 . Get a short piece of insulated wire , and strip about 1/4 inch from each end . Insert 1 end into wire2 , and the other into wire3 . Plug the refrig back in . After about 3 min , look in the freezer , at the bottom , behind the crisper , look for a red glow . If no red glow , unplug the refrig , and reassemble the plug and cover . This no glow , indicates a shorted defrost heater WR51X10101 . It is also advisable to replace the defrost thermostat ( pt. number WR50X10068 ) when replacing the heater . To access these parts , you will have to remove the inside rear wall of the freezer . The heater , is at the bottom of the coils , held on with 2 screws , and the thermostat , is the 1 " cylinder , with a blue and pink wire going to it , clipped on the top left of the coils .
If you do get a red glow , then the # 4 thermistor is bad . This tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp and when to cycle off due to selected temperature .

Refrig. not cooling properly

if the timer is working the most likely problem is the bi-metal(also called defrost thermostat)it is the disc shaped piece that clamps to the coils behind the back panel.you could also have a problem with the heating element, these items require a multi meter to check

I had a problem with refrigerator side not cold. I followed your suggestion and defrosted the freezer. The refrigerator worked for a week, now it is not getting cold. Is there some part that needs repair?

You have a problem with the defrost cycle. Your evaporator in the freezer is getting icedup and blocking airflow. I don't know your exact model but if it has a defrost timer then replace that and the defrost bimetal thermostat in the freezer. They are both cheap and easy to install. If your refrig has a control board then you will need to buy a new board because the defrost is controlled by the board. The boards are not cheap though.

Your model has no defrost timer . It works off a main control board . If there is frost on the rear panel inside the freezer , then you have a defrost problem . This would be another paragraph ( but let us know if there is frost and someone will be glad to help ) . If not any frost , then the compressor may not be running . If the compressor not running , main control board is bad Pt # WR55X10942 . You will have to pull out refrig and remove the panel covering at the bottom to check . The main control board , is behind the 8 " X 10 " panel at the top left , behind the refrig .

GE side by side refrigerator TFX22ZRA control board

The adaptive defrost on your model is controled by the motherboard, but I don't think that is your problem. If the freezer is too cold and the fresh foods is too warm, check the air dampener. It is a small duct door in the very back top left of the fresh foods section.

Amana Fridge that won't keep cooling.

Inside your refrigerator fresh food compartment and behind the control panel is a Adaptive Defrost Board this could be the problem or the start relay and start capacitor located on the compressor. I would unplug and examine the defrost board first to see if it looks abnormal. Second I would replace the parts mentioned at the compressor if the Adaptive Defrost Board looks ok. Below is a link that you enter your model number in the model parts search feature. The part number for the Adaptive Defrost is 611005988
Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze
