Seriously, don't waste your money. Your laptop has an underpowered TK-57 AMD chip in it and Vista so it's slow. There is a virus that will mess with browser connections usually received through facebook. TDL3 rootkit is a common one (hitman pro 3 is a common removal tool). It should be able to be seen under your proxy settings (in under the hood). They will reveal themselves as bogus users ect. If you have been having virus issues run a virus scan or bring to a computer service center, this will cost money.

Remember to keep virus protection up to date and never to download/click-on things that you don't know or don't trust the source of. I know it sounds like I'm lecturing but almost everyone that comes to me with virus infection started with "well my friend sent me a link to look at their new pictures."

Concerning your problem, if your USB drive that you have to write-protect has not hardware write-protection switch enabled like this picture, you can follow the instructions of this link to write protect your system when plugging in a usb.

You must have come in contact with a virus. Does your friend have the capability of slaving your hard drive to his to remove your data. If so, then he or you can reinstale the operating system.
