Question about Onkyo Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

Re: onkyo pre-amplifier (model P-3150V). Once powered on, unit will turn off and on until it stays off. This occurs maybe after 5-10 seconds after being powered on. I open the unit up and there is definately a burning smell after it's been powered for a few seconds. I love this unit and it has sentimental value. Any ideas? I'd rather repair this then purchase something newer. Thanks.

Onyko tx nr616 receiver keeps shutting off. Only stays on for approximately 3 seconds. Can you help?

The amp protection circuit has been activated. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately. Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources, and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord and reconnect an input and a pair of speaker wires onto the unit. If the receiver still does not turn on than you will have to bring it in for service. Turn up the volume and if the receiver doesn't shut down, power off the receiver and add another pair of speakers. Power up the unit again and turn up the volume. If it doesn't shut down, power off the unit again. Now connect all your input sources and turn on your receiver. If the unit shuts down again, your unit will need to be further serviced at an authorized Onkyo service center.

How can I hook up BIC F12 subwoofer to Onkyo TX-DS838 receiver? Will the receiver power the subwoofer and other speakers?

Get a RCA cable and connect from your amp where it said Sub Woofer in the Pre Out box in the back of the amplifier top left hand side and take it to the "Sub In" located in the back of your Sub woofer bottom right hand (White round connector).
Good Luck!

Can a Onkyo tx sr604 receiver be used as a pre amp?

Yes. You can use the Line Out, or Pre-Amp output into another receiver or amplifier. The receiver or amplifier you use as the amp, will need to have a volume control, as the line output coming from the TX SR604 cannot be varied.

Thank you.

Onkyo TX-NR515 will not stay on

pls. check speaker wires for any open cracks. try the speakers to another amplifier and if it works from there your onkyo must be in trouble. open the unit and check for any blown fuse, if found any replace it w/ the same value, do not replace fuses w/ higher value.

The amplifier after turn on after 5 seconds go to Video 1 and you can't change to other input, the amplifier don't do nothing if you turn off , the amplifier turn on againyou

The microprocessor may need to be reset. To do so, perform the following;

Unplug the unit from the power source. Wait for a few minutes and then plug it back in again.

Sources of the problem can be from radio interference for example, or I would suspect given the time of year you are reporting the problem, our Sun which is more of a rare incidence but peak times are during the same months as the appearance of the aurora borealis.

Other causes are static electricity.

Power will not stay on

Activated protection circuitry means that the amplifier is seeing conditions it does not like and is shutting down the power to prevent further damage.
Either you have a short in your speaker wires, in your speakers, or a blown amplifier.
Disconnect both speakers and turn on the amplifier. Does it still give the error message? If it does, your amp is blown. If it does not, carefully inspect your speaker wires and their connection. Make sure all looks good and reconnect the speakers and try it again. Still get the error message? You likely have a problem in your speaker cabinet(s).

My Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver stays in standy/on mode.

It may be your amplifier protection circuitry is being activated and shutting down automatically. This is usually caused by a faulty output transistor in one or more of the channels. I recently repaired my Onkyo TX-SR500 which had this problem.
Using a multimeter on ohms check between C and E on each of the ten output transistors. I found Q6051 and Q6061 to be short cct on all pins. Once you have located the faulty channels check the adjacent components for open or short cct.

I replaced the following components,
Q6051 (2SD1047)
Q6061 (2SB817)
R6091 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6081 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6101 2x 0.22ohm 2W
Q6031 (2SD2061)

The amplifier now works perfectly, cost of the parts is about $15-$20.
If you don't feel confident doing this yourself just find a friend or tech who can do it for you.

No Sound

Called Onkyo and here is the solution they gave me.

1. Turn on unit.

2. Press and hold VIDEO 1 button.

3. While pressing VIDEO 1, press Speaker A button.

4. You should see "CLEAR" on the display for a second and it will go on stand-by mode.
.
5. Turn on the unit and check if sound is back.

Hope this helps
