    For whose benefit?

Many times the first start-up of the computer will guide you through many set-ups and the tutorial.

I think that you would NOT be best served accomplishing this.

Use the restore CD & reset the machine. could take a couple of hours.

I have just purchased a GATEWAY desktop computer,

Try removing the battery on your motherboard and leave it out for 10-30 minutes (See page 65 of your owner's manual) . Make sure the power cord is removed from the PC when you do this. Replace the battery and see if this resets your CMOS memory in the BIOS, where I am presuming the password is set if you are getting this message immediately upon startup. There may also be a jumper on the motherboard that might reset the CMOS. If this isn't a new computer, or is a refurbished computer, the previous owner may have set the password and you could contact the place you got it from to have them fix the problem.

Password unknown

FYI, I know this is an old posting but you don't have to go to Dell Tech Support for password reset, just reset the CMOS password jumpers inside the computer. Not a difficult task at all, refer to the owner's manual for details on opening the computer, and for resetting the jumpers. Very easy solution, did it myself. Hope this helps.

I am looking for my bios password on my toshiba deskstop it was locked i do not have password harddrive password is locked

You're definitely out of luck if there is a Password on the Hard Drive. The only way you can get the system to ever work again is to get that someone that put the password on the hard drive to take it off.

99% of the time if a computer has a Password on the hard drive and the person it possession of the computer does not know the password, it's a stolen computer. The original owner put the password lock on it to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data if it is stolen.

I got a Compaq Presario SR1903wm .with red blinking light !!! power's up for about 20 seconds then shuts off !! doesnt even start up in Bios !! Dont know what to do !! should i replace the power supply...

check the ram memory ..if this shows up OK (verify it in another computer with the same specifications ) ...than the CPU is to blame ..open it up ..and remove for a few seconds the Bios battery to see if you messed up with the temperature settings ..This will reset to factory settings ..and if there is teh case with temperature limits too low set ..than it will power up after ..if it is the CPU you will have to change it

Need to factory reset a dell demension E521

First turn on the computer when and when the logo first comes up hit the Pause/Break key and then hit F11 if this doesn't work, you can call dell and ask for a reload CD they will send you one.

Blank screen on desktop (dell inspiron 530s); requesting a password.

Someone has turned on the BIOS password on you and therefore the PC will not let you boot up unless you enter the correct password. The problem is you cannot turn off the password option unless you know the password. I would start by asking other people who had access to you computer what they set the password to. If nobody comes clean, then you will have to call Dell Tech Support to get them to reset the password for you. They will give you a master BIOS password to override the one set and turn off the option.

How do I change the registered owner name on the computer as I purchased the computer from someone else. When I scan the computer I keep getting trojans and cookies, and worms picked up from stuff he went...

I would reformat the PC and reinstall the Windows. This way you don't have to mess with that the previous owner's data and it will remove all the Viruses,Trojans and Spyware. And you can put in in your name.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Power saving mode activate using pc

The pressing of the F-8 key while the computer boots up is called entering the Computer into the "Safe Mode". The F-8 key needs to be pressed several times at the second the computer powers on. When you get a DOS screen, go to "Last known good Configuration", this should help with the problem. The other solution i can offer is ounce you can get the computer up, go to System Restore, Restore to a previous point.

Let me know if this helps
