I had the same issue come up when I bought my 99 Nissan Maxima from a used car dealer that was Nissan. They only had one key and no remote, when the car originally came with a remote, a valet key and a second key. In order to get the additional keys, I had to have a whole new set made and programmed for about $200 and that was in 2003. I doubt there are after market keys for the car - and, apparently, just having a key id number isn't enough because the new keys can't be set to the old number. Ask a dealer.

1999 Nissan Maxima, car was running shut it off, now won't start, replaced crank sensors, cam sensor, mass air flow, and fuel pump. The security light stays on when cranking, is it possible that the key could be no good, or is their another problem

It should not cost more than $130 to get the key and program both of your keys together. Key is around $85 and the programming for your key is easy, so it shouldn't cost more than $45 or 1/2 hrs. of labor. Those keys are easy to program, not like the new style (I-key) that Nissan uses now adays. Your key is the old school key/old style. The dealer is RIPPING YOU OFF if they are charging you $200.

How to bypass ignition switch on 2006 nissan maxima 3.5 lost keys

Hello Jam mmmm,

I have seen products that allege this can be accomplished...

And frankly... IF COST WERE NO OBJECT...
and YOUR ELECTRONIC SKILL peerless...
I don't doubt that t could be done.

However...

back down here in this vale of REALITY...
Your options are call a locksmith to where you are or
have your car towed to a DEALERSHIP and pay twice
as much...

If you get on AMAZON or eBay and check how little it would have cost to AVOID your current situation ... it would be MOST VEXING... my best cut charge = $6

Regardless ... do shop around: you can still save HUNDRES merely by checking & weighing your options.

Lost Smartkey and Insert

If you go to a Nissan dealership, you can have your key reprogrammed. When they reprogram your key, it will render the lost key useless since it was not present while programming.

Key fob reprogram

Some locksmiths have the machinery to do this but you will have to shop around for them. The problem is that the new key has to be programmed to the immobiliser in the car so the dealer wants the car and the new key to complete the job.. When you consider that to have the job done on a lot of cars the job costs $25.00 for the key .$25.00 to have the key cut and $450 + to have it programmed I consider $200.00 to be reasonable

99 Mitsubishi mirage, the wife lost second key, can i still replace ignition tumbler

If you replace the ignition switch tumbler then you also will have to get a new key and that will cost you 2 keys and reprogramming. Cheaper just to get 1 new key and program it from yours or the car.

Lost original key

Go to a different dealer. You can buy any amount of keys, you want. For example 1. Who is to tell you how many keys you have to buy??( I would be pissed if I were you) I would get 1 key and get it programmed. That will save you some money for now. Get more keys later. You will have to reprogram them again, but what you gonna do?? Those keys are about $80 and to program it should not be more than 1/2 hr. ($45?) Those keys are easy to program, not like the I-Keys, that Nissan has now. And as far as the company in California?? never heard of it, but I do know that there are places that make keys with a transponder that will fit your Maxima. They are about 1/2 the cost of a Nissan key + the programing. Good luck.
