That can happen in zoom point and shoots with longer focal lengths. What has happened essentially is that the lens gets stuck having become out of alignment. Often when the lens is out but it can heppen when the lens is in as well. The camera then refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off. It often happens when the camera is struck or dropped.
If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do have them fix it.
If your camera is out of warranty, the one thing you can try is to If you gently, and I do mean GENTLY push against the lens with the PALM of your hand as you turn it on, it may cause it to depress back into the camera. If that doesn't work, and you can't reset it or turn it on/off several times, then you may have to send it in for a repair estimate anyway.
Hope that helps........

Zoom error indicates a problem in the lens mechanism, Its either stuck or there may be sand in there.. Is it extending all out? does it go back in? Sorry but the only solution to this is either to tap it on the side or take it to a professional who can do the cleaning inside or fix broken parts.

Camera won't zoom correctly.

Lens errors (Zoom Errors on FinePix) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

My fuji s7000 zoom has coloured wavey lines when turned on. It goes back to normal intermitantly but at the moment it is constant Ian

Hi Ian.

If the lines are reproduced in the pictures taken, then the image sensor located behind the lens is starting to fail. The problem will usually get progressively worse until you won't be able to shoot regular pictures anymore.

Call Fuji and ask about repair. You can get a quote from a third party here: Repair.

Regards.

Cyber-shot w50 zoom problems

If this error message appears, turn off the camera and remove the batteries for 30 seconds. Afterwards, reinsert the batteries and turn the camera back on. Perform a manual reset of the camera. Once you perform this it will be back to factory settings and you will lose any pictures stored on your camera.
