This happened to me before with my lenovo. In my case buying a new battery fixed the problem. My laptop was about 7 months old. Another possiblity could be that the contacts between your battery and computer are messed up. Or that your motherboard's messed up. I would hedge on the first problem though...

There seems to be a problem with the motherboard. You need to get your hardware checked.
Alternatively, there is a solution that worked every time for me.

Disconnect The A/C Cord or Charger from the laptop,
Remove the battery,
Hold the Power Button for 45 seconds.

Put everything back together and then try!

Tips : Use a cooling pad or a hard surface to keep your laptop on. Sometimes this problem occurs due to improper ventilation & overheat problems.

Good luck !

Reset BIOS Password

You set a BIOS password on your computer. The next time you start up the computer, you forgot what it was. How do you reset it?

1. Open up the computer to expose the motherboard. For normal desktop computers
,you will have to slide the case cover or side door off. For Laptops, remove the keyboard by unscrewing the screws securing it to the unit.
2. Look for a battery on the main board. It will either look like a large watch battery or like half of a AA.
bios-battery.png3. Remove the battery for about 10 seconds.
4. Place the battery back on the motherboard.
Ifthis doesn’t work, it is likely that you will need to look in thedocumentation for your motherboard to learn the jumper that will resetthe BIOS password.

Verify that the cable that goes from your cpu to the monitor(VGA cable, the one which has to be tightened using screws on both side) is connected properly. If that is Ok remove the cable and check the status of the pins on the cable and the monitor. If everything seems alright connect the tv to a different monitor(like an LCD tv) and see if the image is alright. Let me know your observations so that we can figure out what the problem is

From your description I would say they hard drive is failing and would suggest that you buy a new one and transfer all your data over to it or go to a pc place and have them do it.

Try reseating the ram or try using the ram stick in an available slot . If that does not seem to work. Check if there is any throttling issues. Try running the computer only on the power and remove the battery .

Water spill, mouse on the fritz

Hi there,
honestly, the only thing you can do, or have done, is to disassemble the laptop, get inside and look at the connectors and components. Sometimes the liquid causes corrosion, and some cleaning with alcohol can clean things up.

This is surely hardware, not an easy software fix.

Other times, cables or connectors can be replaced. I have had the keyboard go bad, the touchpad, the cables to the power strip by the power button, and even leak down into the ram, and corrode the ram contacts.

All were fixable, so it is possible. The key is to get deep inside and check out where the liquid flowed, and examine the parts. A good shop that knows laptops can help.

Gateway laptop wont connect to power

The only thing you can really do in this case is call gateway and see if they can repair this. it seems like something internal. Hopefully the computers are still under warranty. Sorry for the bad news.

Liquid poured on my laptop

Alright, the problem is obviouse, Imasuming you have turned it off.

Remove keyboard, usually you have to pop off the plastic bracket and remove a couple screws underneath or on the bottom of laptop to remove keyboard.

Soak up any water or moisture.

Leave the keyboard off for a couple of days in a dry place as well as the laptop.

Remove the battery as well.

If the laptop didnt short out when the water fell on it, then theres a good chance its alright once you dry everything out.

After 3 days or so, and you know its all dry, put back together and give it a try.

If it shorted out when the water fell on it, then the laptop is probably a gonner. You should be able to salvage the Hard drive, RAM and CD Drives.

The mother board is what would go out if water shorted it, you may be able to replace the mother board and it may work fine. It up to you if yo want to try.

Good luck.

You may have a defective battery. It no longer delivers the required voltage to make your laptop work optimally. Some components will not work when those do not receive enough electricity. When you insert the plug to the mains you get the required power to make the components of your laptop work. You may try to remove your battery and plug to the mains. If this works without problems, then you must change your battery.
