Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

Yesterday, when I powered up my laptop, everything was all of a sudden enlarged ( the desktp, icons, internet, text, e-mails, EVERYTHING). I know this is probably supposed to be some kind of useful tool for the sight impaired, but for us folks who can still see, it is an obstacle to try to read an entire page of something without moving the page five thousand times. PLEASE help!!!! Seeing as I don't know what I did to make it happen, I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I have looked everywhere. Also, when I got my pc I was checking out all the stuff and was playing with the on-screen keyboard and narrator options to see what they were, is theere any way to make them stop activating eveery time I turn my computer on? The computer is an HP Pavilion dv6810us laptop and is running windows Vista home premium.

Hi,

Your enlarged desktop could be caused by several different things, so I will address each one in the order of likelihood of each one:

1. You may have accidentally changed your Display Settings.

Right-click on your desktop and select Personalize. Scroll down and click on Display Settings. Ensure that your Monitor Resolution is set for the maximum. If not, use your mouse to move the slider bar all the way to the right.

2. You may have accidentally changed the size of text and icons.

Right-click on your desktop and select Personalize. In the bottom left-hand corner, select Ease of Access. About half way down the screen, select Make the computer easier to see. Click on Change the size of text and icons about half way down the screen. If it is not selected, chose the default scale.

3. You may have accidentally turned on the Magnifier.

Right-click on your desktop and select Personalize. In the bottom left-hand corner, select Ease of Access. About half way down the screen, select Make the computer easier to see. About half way down the screen, uncheck the Turn on Magnifier.

To turn off the On-Screen Keyboard on start-up,
right-click on your desktop and select Personalize. In the bottom left-hand corner, select Ease of Access. About half way down, select Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard. Unselect Use On-Screen Keyboard.

To turn off the Narrator on start-up, right-click on your desktop and select Personalize. In the bottom left-hand corner, select Ease of Access. About a third of the way down, select Use the computer without a display. Unselect Turn on Narrator.

I hope this helps. If so, please remember to rate my post.

Thanks!

Right click on your desktop and goto display settings, lower the resolution and it will enlarge everything. If the issue is just text in your web browser you can also hold down the CTRL key and press + to make the text larger.

My screen of computer is so big the contents are enlarged my kid has pressed some buttons pls help

Hi nayyarshelly,

I like to help you regarding your concern having big Icons on your desktop, you mentioned that your kid accidentally pressed something on the machine that made everything big, See steps below to changes the Icons or your systems desktop settings.

  • First the system should be turned ON and logged in to Windows, I am assuming that you have Windows7 on your computer.
  • On the keyboard Hold down the CTRL button while holding down the CTRL key on the mouse scroll, scroll backwards this should make things smaller again.
  • If the screen on the Internet is also big do the same thing while your Internet Explorer is open this should change the size of the text / pictures anything on the Internet explorer.
  • But if the above does a different function from what you are experiencing then I believe that you are experiencing some changes in the resolution of the screen if everything is Enlarged.
  • Click on Start then on the search bar type in display, a list will show look for Display then click on it to open up the Display window then click on Adjust resolution.
  • The resolution on your screen depends on how big the LCD screen is
  • On the Resolution page you can pretty much check each resolution on the list that will be better to you, then click on Apply lower right then OK to apply settings on this page.
I hope that this will be of help regarding your concern.

Have a nice day,

I go to facebook.com or facebook were its bookmarked and everything having to do with facebook is so small i cant read it

HIt CTRL and the "+" at the same time to zoom/enlarge the print on the page. You don't need to hit the shift key. Alternately, you can go to the "View" tab at the top and select "Zoom" to enlarge the text on the page. Hope this answers your question. All the best!

Enlarged icons and text

The following should get you back to normal:

  1. Click the "Start" button
  2. Click "Control Panel"
  3. Click "Display"
  4. Click the "Settings" tab on the top
  5. Near the bottom is a box that says "Screen Resolution" , to make the stuff on the screen smaller , slide the bar toward the right and hit apply. You may need to slide it over a couple of times to make the display look correct on your screen.

That should fix you right up!

Sounds like the display resolution has been lowered, just go in your control panel > Display > Settings, and set it at a higher setting.
