I STILL need to know OS and audio Programs...

  • Michael Borelli Jul 28, 2008

Operating system and what software takes care of all your sounds? Win XP, Mac, Vista, 2000, Linux, etc? Win audio, Legacy, Audigy, Turtle Beach Audio, ETC?

  • Michael Borelli Jul 29, 2008

I tunes is not your audio driver. From Start,Go to , right click , select , select , and from the drop-down menu, look and see what audio driver it tells us you have...accordianman

  • Michael Borelli Jul 30, 2008

That's what I needed, thank you. Go back into that menu and uninstall the drivers for the Legacy audio. Then, reinstall the drivers and see if that does it. Are you running Anti virus of some sort and what is it if any? You may have a bug floating around in there somewhere, and need to run spyware eradication, then virus removal tool, just to make sure there's no other problem...accordianman

  • Michael Borelli Jul 31, 2008

Okay, when you uninstall drivers, it is not necessary to have a CD to reload those drivers. Just follow the directions and click on what you need. DANGER! Do not uninstall the actual device, just the drivers for now. Uninstalling the device(s) will require file(s) on your hard drive to be reloaded, and, barring a good source, will require the respective CD....accordianman

  • Michael Borelli Aug 01, 2008

DO NOT uninstall the device-ONLY the drivers! Then reboot and re-install those drivers and see what we have...accordianman

This almost new unit has lost sound output completely.

Return it under warranty, the unit is faulty. There is an internal component like a capacitor going bad or a bad connection on the circuit board.

I am playing Cd's and have a pair of Definitive Technology- Model BP-10 tower speakers connected to my Technics SA-DX1040 5.1 Channels Receiver and while the music is playing, all of a sudden the music...

There are 2 major possibilities and since you didn't say if the sound comes back here's the general split.
1. The power amp section could be having problems and/or protection circuits are kicking in. In this case repair of the amp will be needed.
2. There is a bad connection somewhere making the audio path go bad. In this case a good can of contact cleaner applied to all switches and controls may help. If not, the bad connection may be internal. If tapping (or rapping) on the unit makes it come back, there's probably a bad internal connection.
If letting the unit cool down brings back the sound, its the power amp section.

Hi, i have a sony i received from someone no manual, i have pretty good speakers but the sound output is no good. is it the unit does not have the wattage or i do not have it hook up right

Unless you're trying to really crank it up, any speaker should work on almost any amp if the hookup is correct. If the impedance or such is off, that won't show up at low volumes and I assume your sound is bad at any volume. Look for Main Left and Main Right and start there. 4 wires - 2 speakers, not too hard. Select a simple stereo source (like a CD) and see how it goes. That will verify the amp/speaker setup (at least for those 2). If that doesn't work, there may be an internal issue in the amp which is why "someone" was getting rid of it.

How to install soundcard in my laptop?

There are some cards that you can put in your lap top but maybe a little bit expensive. The easiest way is to buy some sound cards with USB or Firewire connection but they are external sound cards with high quality that your lap top sound cards. If you mean install driver, then you have to look to your sound card manufacture to find the driver on their web site.

Connecting pc audio to str-de898

You're close. PHONO is NEVER the place to send Line Level signals. It is for the small output produced by a phono cartridge only. Google RIAA equalization to see why it sounds so bad when connected that way.

That you get sound through Phono at least proves your PC is producing an output. Now we have to figure out why your RECEIVER doesn't sense the program where it should be connected.

If you have another analog audio source that works on the receiver, temporarily connect the PC audio there to see how it sounds. Then think about why it doesn't work in MD/TAPE, SA-CD/CD, TV/SAT, DVD, or either Video IN. Any of those should work.

No home theater sound

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

How does Logitech X-540 speakers connect to a laptop?

You connect the green cable from the subs (the green one of the three, the other two being black and yellow) to where your headphones or speakers go into your laptop. Then you make sure the matrix button is activated on the x-540. This will make sound come from all of the speakers and it will use the sub, i.e. virtual surround sound.

To do it properly without using the matrix mode and trying to enable actual surrond sound (with centre satellie being mostly vocal, front two being instrumental/music, and back two being sound effects) then you need to buy an external sound card for your laptop that supports 5.1. I'd recommend the creative x-fi external usb, but only if you have xp. If you have vista, forget about getting an external sound card that supports real 5.1 for now because there aren't really any good and truly compatible ones.

I have a marshall 100w JCM 2000, DSL 100 Head, going into a 1960 A 4x12 cabinet. Which inputs and settings should i use on the rear of the amp in order not to damage it

Most 1960 cabs have an option for 8 or 16 ohm... i dont think there is a 4 ohm option. The Jcm 2000 heads have the ability to do all three ohm setting. Thats all you really have to worry about. Make sure the ohms match up. The 1960 cabs typically have 4 t-75 speakers in them which are 75 watts each so wattage is not a problem. There is some argument about what ohms sound best. It doesn't really change that much in the sound in my personal opinion. I run mine at 16 ohms though cause i think it sounds brighter...
