Installed a python 991 on 1997 ford mustang and everything works but the remote start. I have programed the tach and all but when I try the remote start it gives me 8 flashes on the parking lights. I have the safety switch on and the black/white neutral safety switch is grounded. Is there anything else I can try?

try having the cpu reset using a code reader as you may have two systems operating in conflict that is causing the problem.

There are three possibilities for the situation you are describing especially if the vehicle has been cold for a while. The first possible cause occurs when the smart tach feature is used. In this case, the 533 is not receiving the proper signal from the vehicle that shows the engine is running. The remedy for this problem is to connect the tach wire from the 533 a proper tach source. The other two causes occur when the smart tach feature is not used and the tach wire is connected. If the tach wire is not connected to a good source for the tach signal in which case the wiring will need to be corrected. Otherwise, the tach signal will need to be relearned.

This is a common problem for remote start units that are installed utilizing the virtual tach (tachless) mode for RPM sensing. For the most part, it is a convenience for installation but it is not the most reliable. The only way to fix this is to have the tach wire of the remote start system connected.

It's possible that the installer has the engine monitoring option programmed for voltage and, the unit sees a drop in voltage when operating the trunk...causing the remote starter to shut down. If so, try programming the unit for tachless instead or, hook up the tach wire.

Did you program the tach, learn it to the remote start?

Any valet switch will work. Then simply program your remote. As long as you have a DEI remote there should be no problem unless you are trying to program a two way remote (pager) to a one way system (non pager)

When you try to remote start it does it crank and not fire? If so, check for a flashing anti-theft light on the cluster. The vest way to bypass the fact antitheft is with a 556U bypass which requires a spare key (I have had some other bypass units fail in extreme cold, not sure why, but I just replaced them w/ a std bypass and it worked flawlessly). If that is not the issue reset the tach learn rate at a higher rpm or even set it to voltage sense with a crank time of .8 sec.

just read over the tach learning procedures for this. Are you sure your hooked up to a good tach source. My notes show its the green wire at the coil. Check your connections and let me know if there good.
