picture freeze & pixels messing up, sounds like a signal problem. Try connecting a DVD player & see how that source performs.

verticle lines are most likely a bad tube or convergence problem. You will not be able to fix this your self . I suspect a bad convergence ic

Why television pixels keep breaking up

could be a number of things-lens film/cover "cloudy", lamp dimming, defective optical block, etc - this tv is garbage! we finally threw ours out for garbage - two lamps exploded at $100-300 - replaced the optical block twice-garbage is all I can say - I expect to buy a tv at 4K that would last many years without distortion to our eyes, the expense of it all and total inconvenience-dealing with warranty bs etc - never owned a tv that was so much trouble!

Dark areas get very blocky?

This is a disadvantage of digital video. Blocks are differences in pixels that compose the overall picture. You can amelorate the effect by turning down the contrast (picture) intensity. Try other picture formats pro, standard, or vivid, if available

42" RCA Projection TV - Sound good, but Picture goes out intermittently.

resolder the vertical output IC . bad solder there can make the CRTs blank for protection and you will lose the picture when the vertical drops out.

TV has dim picture

The picture tubes are weak or there is a problem in the power supply. you may not see a bad capacitor as all caps do not swell or leak when they go bad, If you have no TV experience, A TV set is not a place to experiment with.
