Hello kandapohe22 ,
Yo need to go to the manufacturer's site of your sound card and download the driver .
If you can't identify the sound card , download Driver Genius from
http://www.driver-soft.com/ and let it scan and identify your device . Once done , you can google it and find the manufacturer to download the driver .
Best regards .

I have an MG5R2 monitor with no sound . I needed to reboot my computor because of a virus . How do I get the sound to hear movies or dvd's ?

I assume by "reboot" you mean you needed to restore your software (Windows and applications). Windows will need to have the sound drivers installed before you'll get your sound back.

Most computers have the sound card integrated on the motherboard. If the computer is a name brand (Compaq, Acer, etc.) you can usually find the sound drivers at the manufacturer's website. You can also get the drivers from the motherboard maker's site.

Once you have the drivers, installing them is pretty easy. Most manufacturers pack their drivers into an installation program that does everything for you.

Hope this has helped you. Thanks for using Fixya!

I believe I picked up a virus that has killed my sound

How about an easier solution? Go to your computer manufacturers website ->Support->Software and Driver downloads, and download the needed audio driver.

Then install the driver. Your audio driver is corrupted, this audio driver download will repair it.

My desk top hv no sound

ur motherboard has a disk containing the drivers needed for components like the vga card.. sound card (if integrated onto the motherboard), local area network (LAN) etc..to work.. this disk probably came along with ur computer.. unfortunately.. when you formatted th hard drive and reinstalled windows u got rid of all these drivers and they must be re-installed in order for these components to work..

if there is no disk present you can download drivers straight from the manufacturers website by typing in th make and model name of the sound card..or of the motherboard if p.c has a soundcard integrated onto the motherboard) into the address bar (the bar at the top normally..this begins with http://) you can find these details by going to start > all progs > system tools > system information > components > sound.. this will display the name and model etc of th card.. once on the manufacturers website there is usually a link for downloads to follow..

alternatively go to start > control panel > system > hardware > open "device manager" > once open look in the list for any yellow explanation marks anywhere..right click on any item showing this and delete..then restart the pc.. once it has restarted th pc will automatically detect new hardware and look for drivers.. often the best move now would be to rollback the drivers when given the option but this wont work after a disk format because th format clears th hard drive of everything..including updates and drivers so.. if you DO have a disk supplied with your pc carrying the required drivers (most new pc's will have this supplied with several other disks required to install software or applications...... this is far the easiest method of installing drivers
