Most likely you would have to get it fixed. Although you could do it yourself a lot cheaper if you found a screen on ebay and replaced it yourself
you could follow this guide:

Please help fix my display problem white screen what will cause this to happen

You have a GPU issue. I usually find it is caused by overheating and the GPU has unsoldered itself from the motherboard.
It is repairable dependant on where you live and expertise with BGA LSI chips.

My screen on my gateway netbook has a small crack in it that caused the whole screen to turn black. Will I be able to fix it or should I buy a new one?

If your comfortable opening up the laptop, and either have done it before, or know someone who has and is willing to help you, yes you can replace the LCD screen in the netbook.
If not, your best solution would be to take it to a technician or repair shop, or, if financially viable, buy a new one, and swap out the harddrives to that your new machine has all of the information of the old one on it.

Screen made a snap like sound and went dark. What are the possible replacement parts needed?

If you're lucky it could just be the inverter which is fairly cheap to replace, otherwise its a new screen. Either way I'd get a free estimate from a no-fix no-fee company that can repair this for you. If you need help choosing a reputable (and fairly priced) company let me know and I'll help you out,

first, I would check screen cable. try replacing it with a new one, you will be surprised to know how many display problems are are caused by a defected screen cable.
in case this is not the problem, it can get more complicated, but first, just in case, reinstall drivers. its a long shot, but if you get lucky it will save you alot of pain. in case it didn't help, It's probably a bad vertical output chip. if you have some familiarity with monitors and decent soldering skills you could probably fix it yourself, but I would advise looking into taking it to a shop, or at least find an experienced hobbiest if you're not yourself. It's a pretty straightforward fix for someone who knows what they're doing.

Good Luck/Please dont for get to Vote.
