I downloaded drivers. Same problem. WHERE is the box where i set docs to multiple page?

  • dgilli Jul 27, 2008

I am not trying to copy multiple pages to one page on the printer. I am trying to get the scanner to treat multiple pages as a single document so, when i want to send a 50 page contract, it is not 50 attachments to an email. Isn't this a paperport thing; not a printer thing?

  • dgilli Jul 28, 2008

Scanner Problem. Paperport 10 on dell 1815 printer treats each page of multiple page document in hopper for scanning as a separate document. Useless if you need to scan and email a 50 page contract.I understand there's a box in Paperport "create single page items" that needs to be unchecked. WHERE is the box??

Never mind. Figured it out for myself. If any of you had gone to Nuance tech support, you would have too.

I know paperport 11 has the feature "create single page items" but I'm not sure about version 10. If you are creating .pdf files however there are several things you can do to merge .pdf files into one document.

You need to save default settings after you uncheck the "create single page", I see if I can find manual.

Another way to fix it is the following:
    Unplug USB
Download and install the following three files in same order.:
    Updated driver
    Dell software
    Dell upgrade
They are official Dell download from Dell support page here
Connect printer to USB only after installing software or when required by software installation process.
    Restart computer.

    It should fix your problem.

I forgot... here you download the manual for the printer.\
If you click the save button in the same box where you set documents to multiple page, you should not need to reinstall drivers above, which is a tedious operation.
Try first using save, then eventually reinstall drivers.

    Do the following

First download the manual for the printer here
It will be a zipped (compressed) folder, unzip the manual on desktop and open it.
    In the manual

    • Click on "printing"

    • Click on "printer settings"

    • Read it, it explains how to open the printer properties window and how to save settings

    • Click on "layout tab"

    • Read it shows the layout tab and save button
    On computer:

    • Follow instructions from manual in page "printer settings" and open the printer properties window

    • Select from tabs above "Layout"

    • Select settings and save profile using save button.

Can you do the following from manual, it will open the "box"

After you open that box there is a tab on top of the box that says "layout", click and you get this:

Chose multiple page and save settings.

Well, here are the specs here the review
I did not find anywhere in the manual or in specs or review that your printer can do multiple scans, not sure you have this option, even if I thought that a $400 machine should have it.

    Sorry, I misunderstood.
    Check this article here:
"From this point on, be sure to have the scanner ON when you open
PaperPort, otherwise the scanner will not be detected. Place the
document on the scanner. The other reason I preferred to use PaperPort
10 is that I will be able to scan multipage documents into a single PDF
file. If you are going to do multipage documents I highly recommend
getting a scanner with an Automatic Document Feeder. Make sure you
uncheck the item “Create Single Page Items”. To begin, select
“Document”, then “Settings”. This is where you will name the file (I’m
using a sequential numbering system), select the file type, resolution,
document size and mode (B&W or color). Click “OK”, then “Scan”.
You will be asked if there are more pages to be scanned for this

What you need to do is select the file type as .png instead of the default .jpg. A .png file will create one file with multiple pages.

How can I scan more than page.

I don't know what software you're using, but I use Paperport 12 Pro

It lets me scan and combine and separate multi pages as pdf files. I can also file them for later use.

I can't figure out how to scan multiple pages to one file

Hi There !!

Thank you for choosing

It is possible to scan different batches scanned from the ADF into one PDF file. When loading more pages in the ADF after the first realm is finished, it asks if you want to continue scanning to the same file. After that, it will continue scanning to the same file. However, this feature can be selected in the Adobe Acrobat application itself. From HP software, if we load the paper after one realm of paper in the ADF is finished, it will scan the second realm to a different file. If you want to continue scanning to the same file, you need to have either Acrobat Exchange or Adobe Acrobat installed on the computer. Adobe Reader will not provide this feature. After installing either Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Exchange, perform the following steps to scan pages to a single file:
  1. Make sure your scanner is turned on.
  2. Start Acrobat Exchange or Adobe Acrobat.
  3. Put the document into the scanner (usually face down on the scan bed).
  4. In Adobe Acrobat, click File , then Import , and Scan .
  5. Select the device and whether you are scanning a single- or double-sided document.
  6. The scanning software opens and the scanner completes a preview scan.
  7. When the preview scan comes up, make any adjustments you would like, including selecting the area you want to appear in the final scan.
  8. Click Scan . This will get the final scan into the computer.
  9. Your scanning software should take you back to Adobe Acrobat.
  10. In Adobe Acrobat, you should see a small window asking you if you want to scan another page. If the document you are scanning has more than one page, click the Next Page button. If this is the only page, click Done .
NOTE: Scanning multiple pages causes each page to append to the previously scanned page. If you have multiple pages, but want them to be in different files, click Done after each page to create separate files.
  11. When you have scanned the last page, click Done on the window described in step 10.
  12. Your scanned pages will open in Adobe Acrobat. Scroll through to make sure that everything is there.
  13. Click File , and then Save As to name your file and save it.
Still unable to figure out, How to do this? Here are some tutorial on HP website that might help.

Hope this would help.

Cant scan via network?

You cannot use the paperport software to network scan. The paperport software is looking for a driver that is not installed. Network scanning for this printer is basically just file sharing. You initiate the scan at the printer itself. It scans the image and puts it on your computer. After it is there, you can use paperport to convert it to text if need be.

Scan multiple page with X4550

The 4550 will not allow multi page scanning into a single doc using the provided software. You should try another scan software that is TWAIN or WIA compatible. Those should work okay if you are using a USB connection.

I believe at the company I work we use Nuance's PaperPort (formerly known as Scansoft PaperPort)

If you are interested, you can download a trial version here:
[Nuance PaperPort 11 Trial]

I hope this works for you, there might be free alternatives though.
Please rate this solution.
