When you say "quit working", do you mean the power is out on it or you can't access the internet?

I need to expand my att dsl coverage with an range expander but don't know which one to use. I have a 2wire modem but can't get an answer from ATT about which range expander to use or where to get it

Linksys makes a simple range expander you can use. Most expanders do not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put it within range of your main access point or wireless router, and it "bounces" the signals out to remote wireless devices.
Try the Linksys WRE54G ($70-$100)

Intermittent/non-existant connection with LinkSys WRT54G router

I would get a Range Expander... it sounds like you are having problems recieving a constant signal. When you do get the range expander plug the Range Expander halfway between you upstairs computers and your downstairs where your router is at. I hope this helps!!

Linksys wireless G range expander

Hi David,

I need to know that what type of router u r using.

If it is Linksys router just follow these steps,

with the help of the Ethernet cable connect the range expander to any one of the 4 ports in the router...

ur computer shuld be directly hook up to the router..

open internet explorer in ur computer..in the address bar type in 192.168.1.240(ip address of the range expander)

it will prompt for a username and password...leave the user name blank and the password will be admin.

u can see the linksys range expander set up page...

u can find SSID at the bottom of the page...

ur router's SSID and the range expander's SSID should be same..and also the password should be same..

If the ssid or password mismatch between the router and range expander u can find these kind of Error messages...

Good Luck....try it and revert back

If you have wireless N router. You should install wireless N adapter on your children's computers as well. That way, they are compatible with each other coz I guess your children's PC has wireless G adapters. You wont be able to utilize the N signal of the router if your using wireless adapters..
