If the drill is slipping in speed 3 & drill mode. it needs new transmission assy. see www.toolpartsdirect.com , www.ereplacementparts.com for pricing for the the parts.

it is not hard to replace the parts. do not dis-assemble the new parts when putting in. first removed the 4 screw that holds the clutch assy, silver housing. genty pull the clutch assy/with the chuck together.then you can pull the trans. make note that there is a guide for the trans to go in parts fo the yellow housing. soon as you installed the trans assy you have to runs the drill slowly until the speed seletor will flush to the housing, hope this helps

    thanx

Using a garden auger with the torque set to the highest setting the clutch broke and started to slip. Is this too much for the Dewalt 720 cordless drill? Dewalt is repairing it under warranty.

Yes, luckily Dewalt is taking care of you. You might want to look into a 1/2' drive electric model (sorry with a cord) Alot depends on how hard the ground is but in the long run the big electric will handle about anything you throw at it. Check Sears or Home Depot both good sources for good tools

Can I adjust the slip clutch on my Dewalt XRP?

Yes it is the black ring with the numbers on it, the lower the number, the easier it slips. Higher number, less slip.

Check the speed selector switch. if it is not fully engaged (usually because of dirt) the gears will slip. cycle the switch a few times.

I have 3 of these and all of them have a problem after a while that they slip the clutch even when it is selected to the drill position, can the clutch be adjusted?

I just took mine apart and it appears that you have to replace the entire transmission. It is an easy job and the part is about $34 much cheaper than a new drill. Really, it is one third the price of a battery. Just take the 4 screws out that hold the metal case to the plastic clamshells, slide the front of the drill off, pull the transmission out of the rear of the drill put the plastic piece with the gear indicator on the new trans, if needed, slide the new trans into place, spin the motor if needed to get the output to line up with the planetary gears, slide the front of the drill back into place, rotate the chuck to align the shaft  with the transmission output, put the 4 screws back in, enjoy.

Might want to replace the brushes while you are in there as well. I am going to consider this the dewalt version of an oil change

I have a dewalt dc925 combi drill the chuck keep slipping and also the setting ring is hard to adjust . What can i do top solve this?

Probably needs a new transmission. They cost about $34 plus shipping. Easy to fix. Just remove the four torx screws from the metal (gray in color) part $of the drill. Then pull it apart. The transmission comes in a one piece cassette. Insert it, and put the front back on and tighten the screws.
