Press menu and go left or right to setup. Scroll down to format and follow along to format (initialize) your new card. If that new card has an "H" or "M" before the size printed on it, it may not be compatable with the A340 unless an upgrade is performed (firmware upgrade). This can be done by Fuji, or you can do it with help from their website, under the support section.

Card not initialized

I'm going to give you a diagram to help you with this problem. All new memory cards need to be formatted or initialized before use. If the memory card is not formatted it may work the first time but not without problems once pictures are down loaded to the computer the BIG problems begin.

The memory cards need to be cleaned and formatted in the camera they are going to be used in to work properly, it's not the camera it's the card that needs to communicate with the camera.
Here is the diagram

My f10 keeps reading "card not initialized"

Is it a new card? You could try to initialize or format it with the function in the camera setup menus. If it won't format, then maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards.

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

We purchased a new memory card (Olympus xD M+ 2GB) and now when we turn the camera on it says "card not initialized" what do we need to do?

You need to format new card through Format option in camera menu, this will enable new memory card to store/ save fresh images.
Thanks.

What if a new memory card wont initialize?

Hi

The reason you are having this problem is that the maximum size memory card supported by this camera is 2GB. Any card with a larger capacity - like your 4 GB card - can not be initialised by the camera.

For reference see

Hope this helps. Please do remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

Can't initialize SanDisk Ultra II for S7000

try formatting it in the computer, then initializing it in the camera.
It's possible that the camera can only handle memory up to 1Gb. Try a 1g CF card.

Can't initialize SanDisk Ultra II for S7000

It looks as though the camera cannot support memory as high as 4GB. Capacities above 2.2 GB require that your camera supports "FAT32", and S7000 does not support FAT32.

It sounds like your XD card is corrupted. How and why i couldn't tell you. You will need to get the pictures recovered from the card using a special software (image recovery software, can down load for free from some web sites, or some companies can try and do it for you) and then try and format the card in the camera. DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD BEFORE YOU RETRIVE YOUR IMAGES. If you do all traces of the images may be lost.

All the best and happy snapping.

Hello

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
