Hello,

There are serial to USB adapters that can be purchased so you will still be able to load the GPX datum off your unit. Here is a link to one http://www.gpscity.ca/gilsson-serial-to-usb-port-4in-adapter-for-pc-and-mac.html.

Hope this helps!

From the saved data when you backed it up on the computer. Use Garmin Express to transfer.

My garmin 530hcx has locked up on the opening screen...is there a master reset sequence? I have removed the batteries and still won't work! Also, it won't shut off once turned on and locked...

f a device is locking up and has a long noise or beep when powering down, this is due to hidden data being transferred to the microSD data card. These hidden files and folders are being created by the computer and sent to the data card in addition to the maps, waypoints, routes, tracks and pictures that were selected. The following GPS units could experience this issue.
  • eTrex Legend Cx
  • eTrex Legend HCx
  • eTrex Venture Cx
  • eTrex Vista Cx
  • eTrex Vista HCx
  • GPSMAP 60Cx
  • GPSMAP 60CSx
  • GPSMAP 76Cx
  • GPSMAP 76CSx
  • Rino 520HCx
  • Rino 530HCx
To prevent this issue when the device is shutting down delete these extra unused or hidden files and folders from the data card. Examples of these folders are: .Trashes and .Spotlight-V100 folders. Since the Mac OS adds hidden files and folders to mounted removable drive volumes this process cannot be done on a Mac and will need to be done after every time the data card is mounted as a volume on a Mac.
To delete these folders the device will have to be placed into USB Mass Storage mode. To do this:
  1. Connect the device to the computer using the USB cable
  2. Go to the Main Menu
  3. Select Setup
  4. Select Interface
  5. Select USB Mass Storage Mode
The device is now in USB Mass Storage Mode. At this time a window should open on the computer desktop displaying Removable Disk at the top. The Garmin folder will be displayed. Open the Garmin folder.
Do NOT delete the the following files:
  • gmapsupp.img
  • gmapsupp.unl
  • gmapsupp.gma
These files contain supplemental mapping. If delete will cause the mapping to be erased or unviewable.
If there are other folders or files on the data card, delete these. Some of these files or folders may be hidden and therefore will need to be unhidden*. Once you have done so, please disconnect the device from the computer and power it up.
*Note: To Display a file folder that is hidden:
  1. Select the Tools option on the window that appears on the computer when the device is in USB Mass Storage Mode
  2. Select Folder Options
  3. Select View
  4. Open the Files and Folders folder
  5. Open the Hidden Files and Folders folder
  6. Select Show hidden files and folder
  7. Select Apply
  8. Select OK
Once all of the hidden files and folders have been removed from the microSD Card the unit will not

Where do I find a 6 pin serial to usb adapter for the Garmin 421s? I can't find one anywhere on line. Does Garmin sell one? It's Saturday and Garmin's help center is closed. Their on line...

Hello,

The 6 pin DIN plug found on the GPSMAP 421s data/power cable (Garmin part number 010-10918-00) is used for the sonar input.

Data transfer from the GPSMAP 421s is easily transferred by memory card.
Information about data transfer on the 421s is at about 50 seconds into this video.
http://www.youtube.com/gpscity#p/search/6/8ddIgvCAUmI

Real time NMEA data can be transferred using Garmin part number 010-10918-00 wired to a DB-9 serial connector (Instructions are on the cable).

It then can be adapted to USB using a serial to USB adapter.

My Garmin gpsmap 60cx will not proceed past the welcome screen

I'd pull the microSD and see if it boots.

If so, reseat the microSD and see if it boots. If so, good. If not, try reformatting and loading the data back on.

Tracking storage options GPSMAP 295

Every waypoint in the track has date/time, altitude and position. Second and subsequent waypoints will enable calculation and display of leg length, time, speed and direction between each par of points. The track can be displayed in 3D; in Google Earth for example. As far as I know there is no way to change the interval.

The topo maps are low in the map hierarchy. If another mapset is loaded at the same time and is also checked it will likely "cover" topo. I think the Recreation maps are the only one's lower in the hierarchy.

A stolen GPSMAP 60Cx is it posible to locate it once it is turned on???

Sorry, no. Report serial number and internal ID number(if known) to Garmin and the Police. If a map is ever unlocked for it or it comes in for repair at least Garmin will know.

Trouble connecting to any computer

Hmmm..

Make sure your using a USB cable, specifically a USB cable with a mini connector on the end. Specifically, a USB cable with the second one from the left in this picture:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:USB_types_2.jpg

If you are using the USB port, you should have no need for setting COM ports.

Another technique you can use (which I just figured out today) was to place the Garmin Unit in "USB Mass Storage Mode". This allows you to offload saved tracks, but I don't think you can download waypoints or other things that the WayPoint Manager allows.

You can access this option via the Garmin Unit

Goto: "Main Menu" -> "Setup" -> "Interface". Press Down to get to the button "USB Mass Storage". Plug in that USB Mini cord, and you have a thumb drive!

Good Luck!
