Question about Projection Televisions

6 Answers

I have a Sharp LC-42D62U AQUOS TV. As a result of my grandchildren pushing buttons, inputs 1 and 2 are no longer available. We have followed every proceure in the operation manual to correct the problem to no avail. We have a high definition cable box from Cox that prvides the HD signal to input #1 or did. Any suggestions?

Changing the input is not possible as that procedure was not available at either setup or options within the menu

  • ba3mary Jul 28, 2008

I will repeat that we followed every proceure available from the menu that we considered a possibility for correction. Several proceures were not available in setup and options. The most important was changing the input

  • ba3mary Jul 29, 2008

I have no idea which remote buttons my grand children pushed. I think they used the shotgun method. There were three remotes involved, DVD player, cable HD and the TV. I have checked the buttons on all three remotes and found all three functional.

  • ba3mary Jul 29, 2008

We have ran the reset procedure from the on screen menu several times. It will activate inputs TV, 3, 4, and 5 but not 1 and 2.

  • ba3mary Jul 29, 2008

We have the proper inputs from the HD cable box to input 1 as displayed in the operational pubs. Nothing is connected to input #2.

  • ba3mary Jul 29, 2008

Input select is unavailable in the options menu. I think input select is only available when input 1 or 2 are selected. Up to this point neither input can be selected.

  • ba3mary Jul 29, 2008

A hard reset was attempted without success. Although i didn't unplug all of the cables, only the power.

  • ba3mary Jul 29, 2008

There three buttons on the TV, power, channel and volume. they all work.

  • ba3mary Jul 30, 2008

All of your suggestion were helpfull and sharpened the learning curve about HD LC TV's and the associated cable box. The final fix was following a cable box reset by a Cox tech at his end the signal to input one was restored. I'm happy. Thanks again for your help...

If your tv still does not show input 1 and 2 after unplugging the tv, then you will have to retry for a longer period of time. Try longer periods of time such as overnight. And you must unplug the tv from all connections that can supply power to the tv. It is recommended to remove all connections.

You can try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

Good luck...

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

I have a Sharp LC-42D62U - clip_image001.jpg
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the LCD TV turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....

    Good luck:

What buttons did they push? Is it possible that one of them is stuck inside the unit? With the set unplugged, try pushing each of the buttons on the set. You should be able to feel the switch engage. If any of them do not engage, it is possible that the switch is damaged internally. If it is stuck in the "puched" position, then the microcomputer that decodes the switch as a command may be getting the wrong command and therefore be ignoring the video switch command. Try the buttons and update this. I'll look around for other possibilities in the mean time.

Perhaps you mis-understood my comment. Please check any buttons ON THE TV. If any of those are "stuck" odd behavior would be seen.

    Thanks,

    HELLOOOO
Did you read the manual or not?
It does seem none here bothered to red even simple remote functions.
You have to change input select options and this is possible on your TV.Nothing else to say.
There is a button on remote with written INPUT you need to click it .
    Is it that difficult?
    Grab remote
    Press input
    Select input.
Thats all, not that difficult, I cant see what is wrong in following this simple solution.

Computer compatibility

I have just looked through the specs of your TV, it has no DVI input, so a standard VGA out won't work. if your VGA card has HDMI out no problem. and if it has the only think you need HDMI cable :)

We have a dish sat. and it says to press select to watch tv. we see no select button to do so. We have just purchased Sharp tv, model # lc-c3242U, please help

Hi,

Depending on how the satellite receiver is wired to the Sharp TV. I suppose your best try would be to select the input source on the Sharp, something like AV1 or Video (1) not channels. Channel selection would be done on the remote of the satellite receiver.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Most TV's don't change with daylight savings time, since they do not operate with a date, just time. You will need to change it via the remote.
Good luck
