new washers usualy start a brief agitate then locks the door and then starts watering again. depending on washer model it can do this a couple times to evenly soak the clothes at the start of a wash cycle. it is advised to not run full cycle in the washing machine with no clothes for it can damage the unit.
First you need to open the cabinet and remove the boot from the tub to the pump and clear the filter. Try that then run a cycle and post back the results.
Hi. Can you tell me? Does the washing machine sound noisier than normal in spin? Does it sound rough?
The grey marks could be drum bearing wear causing oil from the bearing to enter the washing machine. Sometimes you may see grey or black dots on your clothing.
If this is the case then repair cost is typically around £100 depending on where you live.
Thanks for using FixYa. You’ll
need to clean the filter which is located on the front bottom of the washing
machine right below the washer window. It is held up by three screws. Take out
the screws and clean the lint. You’ll find in the lint some small clothing,
coins and other small things.

possibly it could be your un-balance switch getting very sensitive to any type of movement of the machine, normally they only actuate during the spin cycle when you have a very off balanced load of clothes
I can assure you this IS a common problem. I can't tell you how many customers I have had in the past that complained about their Calypso's leaving the same marks on their clothing. The problem occurs because of the suction on the clothes as the washer extracts water from them during the final nunator cycle. The nunator is the wash plate that the clothes get caught in. The manufacturer's cure for this problem was to come up with a modified control board that reduces the final nunator time and minimizes the suction action on your clothing. The replacement control board part number is 8571359. I have ordered and installed this board on a few Calypso's. I'm surprised that nobody advised you of this in the past. If you call Whirpool back and they deny this, I got this information from them. It may be worth your while to contact them again to see if there is a recall on this and if they would cover the cost of the repairs.
