I'm not sure I understand. Answer these questions and I'll be able to assist. Is the cable your referring to the ethernet cable or cable internet service? Do you have a wireless router with your internet service? If so, then is the ethernet cable attached and connected to the internet while attempting to connect wirelessly? List any other info you think may be pertinent to the problem, and I'll be able to help.

You need to install the wireless card driver for the T41 ThinkPad.
The same model ThinkPadcan have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless youknow exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download allthe drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download thedrivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a recordof which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files arelocated on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEBsite - support/download page and download the latest Windows device drivers foryour model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true You can download thevarious drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, theywill then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install thevarious drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

The T40 series model has several different types of wireless. It is most likely the wrong wireless card driver was installed. Download all the wireless card drivers and install one at a time until you get the right driver.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link :-

Can't set up wireless on IBM Thinkpad

If I recall there are two types of wireless cards that are installed in the T40 series of laptops. Can't advise you which one is installed in your laptop. Download both of them and install one, it it doesn't work then install the other one.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop,
You need to use a computer that has Internet access to download and transfer the files to your computer.

http://www.ibm.com/products/finder/us/finders?pg=ddfinder&cm_re=other-_-suprcn-_-download

Once you get the wireless card operation, you need a wireless router that is connected to a cable or DSL modem which is connected to an Internet Service Provider.
You don't need a wireless router if you only want to connect to the Internet using wireless Hot Spots in public locations or Internet cafes.

How do I connect wirelessly to internet on T41

Morphius, you probably have a bad wireless linkup. Either your end or the originating end has a problem. Check all connections at the base station (if you can access it), and make sure that all your connections are sound. If your signal strength is poor, you might want to move closer to the base station. If all this fails, test your laptop on other connections. If they don't work, take your laptop in for repair because your wireless card may not be working.
