This pickup is a '98 c3500 dualy and has a 454 cid engine. it was runing fine when parked 2 weeks ago. now when i try to start it, it cranks and runs for one or two seconds and dies. it will do this over and over. the dealer replaced the distributor and crank sensor aprox 2 months ago.
You will need to check the fuel pressure. You will have a connection on the fuel line to the motor under the hood. No fuel pressure indicates one of three problems. Fuse in fuse box, relay in relay box under the hood or fuel pump located in fuel tank.

When you turn the ignition to start, do you hear the starter turning and the solenoid engaging the flywheel ? test your starter by jumping it and see if the engine turns over. If this works, then you might consider in checking fuel pressure. Do you have any codes in your ECM ?
Is your check engine light on? If so this may help you in further diagnostics. Let me know and if possible get a code from the light so I can further assist you.

85 with TBI only needs 13lbs of fuel pressure. verify that the fuel filter is clean. there is no easy way to ck fuel pressure, special adapters are needed, I dont have info here at home but there should be a relay for the pump, on the firewall and the oil pressure switch also powers the pump. did you replace the pump trying to fix this problem or did you just mention it to help troubleshoot the problem? verify that the fuel pump wiring has a good ground, should have been a eyelet that bolted to the frame..when you initially turn the key on, you should hera the fuel pump power up for 2 seconds, then go off, after the engine starts, the power for the pump goes through the oil pressure switch.
got a clutch pedal in there? If auto, it could be a 700r4 or some variation of that. You can likely get exact info from a dealer if you give them the vin #.
Hard to say, look around the engine's wiring harness and sensor harness. My brother had the same problem and it was field mice that decided to chew up some of the wires under the hood to make a new nest.
Good luck and let me know how you make out.
