Closed Caption function is set to On in your JVC. look if there any button marked as "CC" on its remote control. If it is there, hit it till the closed caption function go off from your tv screen. If there is no such button found, get into its menu option, surf through, and get in to the closed caption option, set the close caption function OFF in that window. OK.
It sounds like you may have the closed caption banner turned on. This is for text notifications that some stations use for messaging about such things as programming info, sports scores, or weather forcasts, and or etc...
Refer to the user manual of the TV set, or explore the menus to see how to turn off the closed captioning options.
The feature you are looking for would is called CC or Closed Captioning. Per your owners manual you would press the menu button, then move up and down to select "CLOSED CAPTION" from the list. Then to edit the feature press left or right. Select CAPTION to on. The manual lists four different types of captioning (C1-C4) and also four different types of "Text" (T1-T4). Usually one of the caption listings will display only when the mute is selected...its just not very clear which one exactly will do it.
One word of warning, you would not want to activate the Text features. This will sometimes have a large black box appear in the middle of your screen providing other information.
UnfortunatelyJVC does not have a link to your manual on their website, but the manual should be able to be found by entering JVC AV-32120 Manual in a search engine. I would check a few of the results because some maybe free others may ask for a "nominal" fee.
I have the JVC I Art 46" TV. The Close Caption was turn on accidentally by my grandson. After lots of searching for the original remote. I called JVC Customer Support. He told me to change the Close Caption settings to CC2 and T1. That fixed the CC without having the original remote.
