I can't move the channel selector on the remote up or down. I can depress the control but nothing happens. I can key in the channel number OK but to change channels I have to key in another number. The remote has worked fine up until now.

SOURCE: I have a sharp remote

Hello,

Common faults are: some buttons not working, not working at all, corroded battery terminals. Often buttons are sticky because of some dirt accumulated over the years from the sticky little hands of your kids?
The hardest part of repair is often to open the covers. You do not need much experience in electronics repair to repair a remote. Also it is perfectly safe as there is no way to get an electric shock as they work with batteries.

step 1Test your remote with Digital Camera
Check your batteries first or buy new batteries. Once you have good batteries, you can test with a digital camera by pushing the buttons and having camera on and pointing to the infrared led. You should see red light if the remote is working. If no light comes up you obviously have a dead remote but do not despair and proceed to the next step

step 2Open the remote control but there is a catch or a few catches.
Remove the screws if any. Sometimes screws may be hidden under a sticker or rubber feet. Often there are no screws at all but just plastic catches hidden so you have to be clever to open it without breaking the case. Use something blunt and flat to click the covers open. This is often a challenge but should not be too difficult.

step 3Take a picture of every phase so you remember how to re-assemble
Since you are using a digital camera you might as well take pictures of the disassemble so re-assembly will be easier.

step 4Pull everything apart
Did you take a picture of the keyppad layout? Sometimes keypad is just one rubber membrane but sometimes the keys fall away like pieces of a Lego puzzle. And if the buttons are marked with numbers and functions you may struggle to re-assemble them in right order? Use a small plastic takeaway box or similar to store the bits so you don't lose parts.

step 5Inspect the circuit board and repair dry joints
Remotes are often dropped on the floor and may develop dry joints on the battery contacts or circuit board. Inspect the contacts and circuit board under good light with a magnifying lens or if lucky you might have a microscope or just a very good eyesight? Solder all suspicious joints. If there is a sign of water damage you can use methylated spirits and toothbrush to...

step 6Wash the covers and the buttons
Use a small bowl or similar to wash and contain all the parts so you don't lose bits down the drain. Use old toothbrush to clean all button holes and buttons. Warm water with dishwash liquid does the job. Take particular care with those small buttons and clean them properly. If you can leave the bits to soak overnight they come clean easy. Ultrasonic cleaner would be goo...

step 7Rinse, drain and dry the parts
Rinse with warm water. Use a drainer to contain all the parts without losing small bits down the drain. As extra security use sink plug. Dry with a paper towel. Wipe the buttons dry individually as they may still have some dirt which makes them sticky when in use.

step 8Repair case and re-assemble
If there is damage to the case or buttons you need to do the required repairs. Use hot glue or super glue depending on fault. Let dry overnight if you had to glue something. Re-assemble bits in reverse order and make sure you have the buttons in right place and right way around. Small nicks and dents on plastic cover can often be repaired by heating carefully with a h...

step 9Test with Digital Camera
Test every button as before. Sometimes you have to push two remote buttons simultaneously as with recording buttons. Once you have completed test with your camera you can use the remote.
That's it, I hope you got it going again

Cannot scan for channels on remote

The remote model number doesn't help directly. This remote controls several Sanyo TVs including the DP46142 and DP32242. Manuals Lib has the owner's manual (copyright 2012) here: https://www.manualslib.com/products/Sanyo-Dp46142-77711.html . Press Menu (below and to the left of the arrow keys). Select Setup (the icon that looks like a satellite dish) using the left/right arrows. Press the down arrow and go to ANT/Cable setup. Press OK (in the center of the arrow keys). Use the left/right arrow keys to make sure that the Ant In line is set to Antenna. Press OK. Go down to Auto Setup and press OK. Choose from All Channels, Analog Channels and Digital Channels and press OK again. Select Apply and press OK when the scan is finished. (All channels and Digital Channels will work the same way since most analog channels are no longer broadcasting.) See https://www.manualslib.com/manual/306779/Sanyo-Dp32242.html?page=22#manual . Note: digital channels will not display if the signal strength is low. You may need a different antenna or a different antenna placement. See antennaweb.org or tvfool.com for suggested station transmitters.

I hope this helps.

(note: the physical buttons on the TV should work to navigate the menu. Use the channel buttons for Up/Down and volume for left right. The OK button is the Input button.)

Lost Remote Control? Here's a way to help.

So you have lost, or, your remote doesn't work? You can't "Do anything" without it.... Right.... NO Wrong... ALL TV sets have a number, usually about 5 - 6, "Buttons" on the side, front, somewhere. usually close to the "Power ON" switch. Now these "Buttons" will perform nearly all, if not all, of the main functions of your "Remote" They WILL be marked, MENU, +, -, <, >, & OK or ENTER. Now you simply have to depress each button to access the "Functions" you want. One button WILL control the "Function" say Channel, and the <, >, will Go UP & DOWN. This is the same for everything. So one button will make it, say go UP, another will make it,say, go DOWN. Repeated presses on the "Function" Button will scroll through the "Functions" IE: Channel, Brightness/Contrast, Selecting Inputs, once "Selected" another "Button" will move the "Selector" through to the Bottom & another will scroll it back Up, sometimes the ONE button will simply continuously scroll "right around" Of course have a look in your manual... you know that paper thing you shoved away in the cupboard... This will explain it all. ALL TV's and devices that use a "Remote" are ALWAYS able to "Control" the MAIN functions of the unit, via keys on the actual unit itself. So don't despair, just spend a bit of time learning your "Buttons" that way even if the "Remote" does go walkabout, or the batteries go flat, or it just stops working.. well now you can still have complete control.. the only draw back is you will have to get put of your seat to do it. A small price to pay?

Just purhased two Tier-One Gallant helicopters. They say they are 3 channel. I see no channel selectors on remote or helicopter. I want to fly two of them but don't think I'll be able to unless I have them...

You cannot easily change the frequency these helicopters operate on, they are not designed for multi channel use. To change their operating frequency you would need to find and replace the small crystal inside the helicopter and also inside the remote control.
The 3 channel you are referring to is the number of functions (channels) you can control on the helicopter, not it's frequency channel.

Hi. I am using a Panasonic 4 Head Hi-Fi Stereo Omnivivion to convert VHS tapes to DVD. It appears that the tracking needs adjusted, but I do not see anything on the unit to do this. Can you help?

Normally the tracking control is on the remote control. Some models do use the up & down channel selectors on either the remote or the front panel of the VCR. If you don't have the remote, the best way to test if it is these controls on the front panel, is to start a video playing a hold down the up or down key and watch to see what happens. If they operate the tracking, the tracking should go way off (do it on a video that is tracking well when first playing).
PS don't forget to clean the video head every so often (Servisol video 40 spray is best for that).

We have a Panasonic DMR-EH50 DVD player/recorder. We recently moved house and following the move, the FUNCTIONS button on the remote no longer works. Everything else on the remote does. I've tried...

The message displayed means that the remote control and unit are not communicating and the remote needs to be programmed. To program the remote, press and hold the same number that is displaying on the unit and the [ENTER] or [OK] button for more than 2 seconds. For example, if the unit displays “SET 2”, press and hold [2] and [ENTER] or [OK] for more than 2 seconds.

Need remote control codes for the JVC Multi Brand Remote Control Unit, LP20303-018

It took me a week to find the right instructions and codes on how to do this so I am posting it everywhere I can to help out folks with the same remote. Pay close attention to the instructions, for instance when programming the remote for TV use make sure you hold the TV button down while you enter the code and then press OK, You also have to hold the TV button down while you use the volume and channel controls or it will just change the VCR channel.

Changing Remote Control Code

This Remote is capable of transmitting two control codes; one set
to respond to A code control signals and another set to respond to
B code control signals. This Remote control is preset to send A
code signals because your VCR is initially set to respond to A code
signals. You can easily modify your VCR and the Remote to
respond to B code signals. When using two JVC VCRs, set two
VCRs and their Remotes to different codes, so that you can
operate these VCRs separately.

A
Set remote control code for Remote

Press and hold 4
on the VCR for more than 5 seconds while the
VCR is turned off. The code currently set appears on the display
panel.

C
Change code for VCR

Press any key on the Remote. The VCR now responds to B code
control signals.

.
To set the Remote and the VCR back to A code control signals,
repeat the same procedure as shown above except pressing the

Comment by Soulvisitor, posted on Jan 03, 2008 Service mode info

Enter Service Mode: With the TV powered off (make sure it's off for a few minutes before trying this, or you'll wait for the customary cooldown period before anything happens if you turn the set off and try this stuff immediately), press and hold both the "VOLUME Down" button on the TV itself and the TV/VIDEO key on the remote control simultaneously for about 7 seconds (they say over 5 seconds in the manual). The TV will be turned on and it will have a screen full of status data atop an active TV channel.

Next, press the SWAP/STOP key on the remote for more than 5 seconds.

You should be taken to a screen that has " LAMP/FILTER/IIC" as a selectable entity. Press the Action key to select it and move to the next screen of info.

You'll see a status screen with the number of Service Mode Resets of the Lamp run time (I inadvertently reset my Lamp to 0 hrs after 95 hours of initial operation, and I'll show you how to avoid that in a minute). You'll also see Total Time, which I assume is total TV run time, Lamp Run Time, and Filter Time, all in hours.

You can backchain to the the prior screens with the Recall button on remote.

To exit this service mode entirely, you must turn off the TV.

You can also enter a different service mode menu to control a number of parameters, as I first learned from Doug McDonald at this link >>
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/show...hlight=pt40lc12 when I was trying to learn how to perform service mode color adjustments.

Depress the "Volume Down" button on the set itself while concurrently depressing the "Recall" key on the remote for about seven seconds, and you'll be taken into "Work Mode". At this point, you can press the Action key, and select "Information", where you'll not only see Input mode (as usual) but also Lamp Run Time (but not Filter time or total run time).

You can enter the more advanced service mode menu by pressing and holding the Volume Down button down on the set itself while concurrently depressing the SWAP/STOP key on the remote for more than five seconds. -- This displayed a Factory Adjust menu, with bunch of settings. See Doug's message for more details. (Do not press Vol Down on the set and PIP/PLAY on remote simultaneously, or you'll reset the Lamp time to 0hrs as I did !)

Unfortunately, the service manual does not describe all the tweakable settings in the Factory Adjust menu.......
