Runs for 20 sec then stops and it
won't cut in for about 5 mins then it shuts off 20 sec later. Plus
there is a light smell of smoke. 1. Whats the problem? 2. How do i fix
it. Oh it's the washer I'm talking about.
I tried switching to the spin cycle. It worked for about 20-30 sec then shut off. I tried to switch it back on. It doesn't switch back on right away. It is as if it has to cool down. Does this still sound like a timer issue? Also, does the motor go by any other name?

Re: Need help asap, please!
Turn your timer to spin cycle ( doesnt need any water)and turn it on.Now if its starts spinning and than shuts off immediatley turn it back on, if there is nothing happening when you try this >>>Replace your motor. There is a 15% chance that your timer is broken and is sending improper current to the motor.First change motor. If you have been running this on a extension cord or when your community is using alot of electricity it would be the reason your at this problem.Dont run Appliances on super Hot Days ,use them in the evening and your motor will run at a low temperature. Change the program on the machine and try , if the fault clears then it can be related to the program. However if the fault seems to continue it can be due to problems in the drive getting cut off. Check for any problems on the door switch, clean and set if in case there is loose connection that gets disturbed during spin and so resets.
F-21=LONG DRAIN If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes the water valves shut down. After 4 mins the Sd(slow drain) error will be displayed, 4 mins later the F/21 error code will be displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL 2 times to clear display
Probable cause/Proceedure Drain hose plugged/kinked unplug washer/disconnect power check electrical connections to pump and make sure pump runs check drain pump filter for strings, sand etc plug in washer If this dont work replace pump.
You are correct in guessing the timer. The tongs are stripped out and the best way to prevent this in the future, once you have installed a new one, is to turn the timer around clockwise - ONLY - and very slowly and gently. Your machine will last much longer. This is the case on all your electronic appliances.
i canty be 100 percent sure
without the model
but it sounds like you motor is trying to start but for whatever reason is cutting out on the overload. Meaning it gets hot,,,and shutsd it self off to save it self
ther ecould be alot of reasons for this,,, far to many to type here,,,
with frigidaire it could be a bad motor capacitor, or a bad start winding on the motor.......
or a simple as a sock between the tubs preventing the tub from truning
sorry i cant be more help
but figured you should have some sort of answer to at least5 investigate
Hey bob_marianne , Common problem with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW. If you have basic mechanical skills you can fix. It’s just a tight work area to work on the Clutch in this machine. See this post for the details and you can get your $1K machine back in service. Sorry to say a lot of these machines get tossed for a $50 dollar clutch. Let me know if you have any questions after you read the post.
More than likely there is something locking up your motor. Either the transmission or the drain pump, both are connected to the motor. The easiest way is to disconnect the components from the motor to determine which one is causing the problem. Most of the time it is from the something being lodged in the pump, a sock, screw, wire, etc. To get to the pump you need to tip the washer back far enough to get underneath the washer.
probaly a good wash with chlorine bleach..fill tub with hot water pour 2-3 cups bleach let agitate for few mins stop machine and let set 20-30 mins restart and let finish cycle ..to head of future problem leave lid open between uses
