Our over the stove microwave oven displays the clock clearly, but the timer display has been dimming steadily over time and now is barely readable.

On closer examination, the clock is also so dim as to not be readable....??

  • gooftroop6 Jul 28, 2008

The display problem involves our Maytag model MMV4205BAW, serial #10004439JA. The scrolling banner display is brightly lit and easily readable. The clock and time part of the display is so dim it is no longer readable unless the kitchen is completely dark. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

In a few cases, we can replace the VFD tube, but in most cases the entire control board would have to be replaced.

But once we get the brand and model, we can tell you.

Sadly, the display tube is not available separately, so the only way to fix this is to replace the board, at a whopping $181.48!

One trick that helps is to remove the control panel assembly, take the circuit board out of the frame and very carefully wipe the front of the glass and the rear surface of the control panel frame's display window.

Use a soft cloth with alcohol-based (non-ammonia) window cleaner.

That will brighten it up quite a bit.

At our site, we now have a video available showing how to remove a typical control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Be sure to unplug the oven before you do any disassembly.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

For Viking RVM320SS, that would be a fault in the backlight circuit.

Always include your FULL model number*, FCC ID number*, and detailed symptom information. * from the tag in the cooking cavity or elsewhere on the oven (or send a clear photo of tag)

How to fix display on Clock/timer? It has become too Dim and you can't see it during the day, only at night when it is dark.

The same happened on my oven. The only remedy is to change the display unit. A fairly simple job if the part is available, but best to weigh up the price and cost of repair versus a new oven.

Change time on frigidaire microwave no clock button

Hi ssullivan013 - Here are some generics instructions that I found for the model number posted above. Hope the information is helpful.

Suppose you want to enter the correct time of day 12:30 (A.M or P.M.).

1. Touch Clock pad.

2. Enter time 1,2,3,0 and press CLOCK pad again

This is a 12 hour clock. If you attempt to enter an incorrect clock timer, ERROR will appear in the display. Touch the CLEAR/OFF pad and re-enter the time.

I have maytag advance cooking system(electric) and the oven will not work. The timer to set the oven and the time is not lighting up but the stove is working.any sugestion

try resetting the clock. If it is digital, push the clock button and then the number buttons untill you have the proper time displayed...then push the clock button again. If your clock and timer are manual, try pushing in the clock lever and turning it 1/4 turn. If this works it would indicate that your timer has a start and finish time and that the oven is not working because the clock has rotated around to the finish time.

Microwave does not work at all. Shows "PF" in display.

"PF" on the display is an indication that your oven experienced a power interruption. Normally, the error code can be cleared by pressing the CLEAR/OFF button. You may have to reset the time. This is accomplished by pressing the CLOCK button, entering the time on the keypad, then pressing CLOCK again. If this does not clear your problem, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
