I have an lexmark printer, 510 serious it does work on my old hp computer and i recently brought a new computer compaq and it will not reconginize the printer at all so i repluged in my old computer to the check the printer and it work's but i can't get it to work at all on my compaq

Did you check the Microsoft Compatability List (search that title) to see if your Lexmark is supported by the new OS on your new Compaq?

Please check the list. If yo dont find your printer listed, you will have to ask Lexmark for a driver that will work with your new computer. E-mail them if you cant find it at www.lexmark.com/support. If you dont have any luck, you might find a 3rd party driver, but you will probably have to pay for it. You could reconnect your Lexmark to your old printer and add it to your netrwork and print that way. Finally, if none of this works out, you may have to purchase a new printer certified to run on your new OS.

BTW, this is a very common thing with old printers and new computers. That is why Microsoft built the Compatability Listing.

Please right click on my computer icon select properties and then hardware next select the device manager tab and you will get a new window in that look for sound,video and let me know if you see any question mark besides it.

To fix this you need to download the Windows Vista driver for your computer. The driver is basiclly is the software that allows your printer and your operating system to communicate twith eachother.

The Lexmark 1100 series driver includes the x1185 and you can download it here:

That should get your printing in no time , simply download it and run it!

If so, what is the usb chipset of your computer & length of the USB cable..
Cable should be connected on the back of the desktop

According to Lexmarks site, they will be producing a driver that you can download for the X2400 to work with Vista shortly. They don't have a driver for Vista yet.

Sorry, you will have to wait or buy a new printer.

Did you go to the lexmark website and get the vista drivers for it?

Dont forget to uninstall it 1st and reboot before putting the vista ones in :)
