Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Flyback making a poping noise

I have a Philips 60PP9202 bought it from a friend. I was working fine for being used, however the other day all of a sudden we were watching TV and the picture went blank. The sound was still working fine, however no picture. I turned the set off and when I turned it back on, there was a popping electrical noise in the back. Again, no TV just sound. I took the set apart and when i turned on the TV, I can see that the noise was coming from the flyback, along with an electical discharge. Im pretty sure that is my problem, your thoughts?
How do i go about replacing the Flyback?
Where can i get a replacement part?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had a 15 second power outage; my Philips 60PP9202 doesn't come on anymore (there is just a very faint "chirping" noise that is audible. Is there a reset button somewhere?

This is usually the flyback transformer (IHVT-integrated high voltage transformer) and the HOT( horizontal output transistor) The transistor will read shorted, with a multimeter, if it is bad. It is mounted to a heatsink straight back from the flyback. It may have a metal clip that holds it tight to the heatsink.
It is a pretty easy fix if you can solder.
While you have the board out, check for any discolored resistors or blown capacitors and replace those as they will likely fail before long and cause more problems. Also check with a bright light and a magnifier for cracked solder joints and resolder any that you find.

Cannot Find Flyback Transformer 60PP9202/17F

Contact Philips directly. They should be able to get you the part, even if they have to get it from another repair shops. Many repair shops purchase their parts from factory authorized distributors, not from the manufacturer. The flyback transformer powers the tube-it can be extremely dangerous to work on-EVEN with the tv off, they contain a lot of power somethjing like 50,000 to 150,00 volts. It is not fun getting shocked by one of these as many techs have been knocked unconcious by them. If you do not know the proper procedure to discharge a flyback then leave it alone!

Chirping in a phillips is usually related to the HOT ( Horizontal Output Transistor) or the Flyback ( HV Generator having a issue.

PHILLPIS 60PP9202 MAKES SQUEALING NOISE WHEN TURNED ON.

Sounds like one of two problems

1) Convergence chips are shorted....One quick test is to desolder and remove both STK392 chips....then power the set on. If the tubes light up the chips were shorted. You can get new ones from www.TvRepairKits.com

2) Another possible problem is a bad HVG - AKA the flyback.

Try the convergence chip test first. Note: On some Philips sets you can just unplug cable "1516" instead of removing the chips.

Power button stays red when you press it

Might be a bad tube or flyback transformer. Best thing to do is take the back off, turn down the lights, and stand behind it while someone turns it on. you may see one of the tubes arching or the flyback itself. Let me know if this helps or if you need more info.
