I have a Sony trv350 it has sound and it will show pictures from the memory but when you try to record it's just solid black with the time and date, like if the lens are closed. We also tried to view a tape on it and you can hear sound but again it is black.... Any advice on what could be wrong??

Check the memory stick for a little slide lock on the side. Make sure that is not in the locked position. This feature is there to prevent people from recording over special memories, like weddings. But sometimes during handling (or just not knowing) people accidentally switch it to "lock"
If camcorder shows old recorded tapes picture with correct colors in LCD but does not show live view in camera mode to record new movie then its ccd imager chip failure.
And if camcoder shows live view and old recorded tapes in its eye piece view finder but does not show any thing in LCD the its problem of broekn/ cracked flexible wire between lcd board and main board of camcorder.
Let me know your finding with bit detail to provide you solution/ helpful info.
Hi, It is known problem of bad ccd imager in camcorder and requires replacement of that part. Sony will repair CCD-TRV318 Free of Cost in ccd imager problem. Please click Sony CCD Imager Support for details. Good luck.
I would bet that the camera iris is stuck closed. On some of the Sony cameras, the iris actuator (a small motor-like device) leaks oil onto the two slippery sheets that slide acrossed one another and act as the iris. A qualified tech can pull the iris assy out and clean it. I have repaired many Sony cameras this way. Sony usually recommends replacing the lens assy which is expensive
under the lcd is ? an . . . s - video connector
( color is separate there ) if color looks ok
out of the s - video , there may be a loose
composite video connector cable inside camera
( warranty is void - if you open it to check ) ;
