In the middle of a show the screen went black with no picture or sound, power light on. When I try to switch the set on, the power light goes on, but again, no picture or sound. Then the power light goes out. I think I also smelled some chemicak odor. What is wrong - I mean, if this is the lamp, why no sound? I already tried to talk to one of your guys, but he never got back to me.

There is a manual switch on the bottom of the TV. Flick it on and TV screen should come on. The power light will come with this switch off but the screen won't. It had me cursing for a while until I saw the little switch.
If the blue light continues to flash after the screen goes black, then you need to reinstall the firmware. Look at http://screenplayprohd.wikia.com for information about getting the firmware and installing it.
If the blue light goes solid after the screen goes black then you probably just need to switch the NTSC/PAL selection. Press that button on the front panel several times, waiting a few seconds inbetween in press. If it continues to be invisible, plug the drive into another TV using the composite cables instead of HDMI to confirm if the menu comes up at all. If it does, reinstall the firmware.
Hello Dave, Hold the left and right buttons down on the front of your sky + box then unplug and plug back in the power. Hold these down until the circle LED shows then press the select button in the middle. This does a factory reset.
Once this is Done unplug from the back of the Sky+ box then hold down the backup button and plug back in until all the lights are on... on the front of your box. Updating software should be showen on the screen whilest this is doing its thing. Ohh you can take your finger off the backup button when you see this message on the screen.
I would advise you turn the channel over or turn the TV off as this can take 10 + minutes to update. I dont want to be responsable for burning the screen.
the horizontal stage of your tv has changed the oscillation speed, this can occur due to the following.
i reduction of power
ii capacitors changing values
so take your set for repair before it switches off completely,
