Question about Bunn -o-Matic G3 (3 lb. Commercial Coffee Grinder)

Grinder will not turn off

When turning the grinder on to grind it will power one and grind. But, when I remove the filter from the doser it is still running. The power switch will not turn the machine off.

It is possible that the relay, or the micro switches on the grinder are defective.

My Rancilio Rocky Burr coffee grinder w/doser is not grinding the beans they simply remain in the hopper

It is most likely that something is blocking the pathway to the grinder. As the Rocky is a direct drive grinder there is no gear that could be broken.
Try to remove the beans from the hopper and inspect the pathway, move the beans that might be under the 'disk'. If that is not working you might have to open the grinder;
  • remove all coffee beans
  • unscrew the three screws in the bottom of the hopper
  • remove the hopper
Now you can see the grinder wheel and tell if it is turning normally.
This might be a good opportunity to give the grinder a thorough cleaning.
Do not soak it in water, just a stiff small brush (e.g. a toothbrush) is the best tool. And perhaps accompanied by a vacuum cleaner :)
If you have been using very 'oily' beans for a long time they might have clogged the grinding wheels.

Good luck,
Villi

Rancilio Rocky w/ doser: clean sweep of coffee grounds

The Rancilio Rocky coffee grinder is a superb, highly recommended machine, but its doser is pretty useless in the home. First reason: you want to grind coffee instants before you brew or pull your espresso shot; otherwise, the grinds just lose aromatics and flavor. The doser only works for multiple doses, so you're better off just grinding the amount you need each time. If you're buying a Rocky, get the doserless model.

If you have the doser model, like I do, you also find that the vanes which sweep the coffee into your portafilter or cone leave a layer of grounds on the doser floor. If not cleaned out, they turn rancid. There are coffee web sites with fairly complicated instructions on how to modify the vanes to do a clean sweep. Here's the simple way:

Flip up the doser cover, and spin the vanes while pressing your finger lightly on the outer top edge of one vane. The vanes have enough play so the pressure brings one into light contact with the doser floor, sweeping 99% of the grounds into your waiting portafilter.

Briel Java coffee grinder doser failure

My doser lever failed. I diassembled the doser housing (three screws in the base) and found the return spring had fractured. I did not have any spring steel (such as a piece of clock spring) so I found it possible to cut a piece out of an old feeler gauge (38 thou) using tinsnips. I cut to the correct length and glued into the plastic housing as originally -just saved myself $100 and more importantly to me, all the pain of getting the grind setting correct on a replacement grinder

I have a mazzer luigi coffee grinder on which set is the best coffee you get

grinding setting is one simple operation but requires a bit patience:
1 turn on your grinder and continue setting to fine while burrs are spinning, you stop when you hear metal to metal touch sound(burrs maximally closed finest ginding) 2 from that point go back quarter of revolution and mark the spot where you stopped with marker to body of grinder and setting plate with one line 3 grind little amount of coffee only to fill one sector of dosser than test it at your machine(if it leaks too fast and with yellow color of cream you should go to more fine>><< if it does not leak from the filter holder or it leaks very slow you go to in opposite way. 4 you test grinding few times bit after each reset of plate grind little amount and take that in one other pot (that will provide to have pure new granulation) 5 after setting measure the grinded coffee that come out from doser it should be about 7 grams, better measurement you can get if you measure 10 doses in one place because you don't get never same amount from 6 sectors of doser.
PS: the pump pressure of coffee machine should be from 8 to 10 bar and steam pressure should be from 1.1 to 1.5 bar> depends on type of coffees you use.

My Rocky is just out of the box yesterday and it seems to have jammed up. It still grinds, but I can't turn the top, at all. It is stuck, so I can't adjust the courseness. I can't see any obvious problem...

  1. stabilize the body of grinder
  2. provide block spin to be in release position
  3. get one 3 legged key for releasing oil filters
  4. put filter legs at upper holder of burrs
  5. start to release carefuly
be gentle at first, go forward and backwards to measure how much strength is required

Hello. My Mazzer grinder doser Super Jolly (used

It could be that the switch failed, try this to check remove the top part or the grinder burrs and turn it on, if it turns then, grinder was jammed if not switch needs to be replaced.

I disassembled the grinding blades and put it back together but now I can not get a find grind

HI
When you reassemble the removable burr assembly, you first must make sure that there are no grinds left in the main body's threads. These grinds will prevent the burrs from going any farther down. The burrs must touch and then back off to zero the grinder. Don't ever leave them touching though.

Rancilio grinder does not grind fine enough for espresso

After taking the top burr off several times and rescrewing it, I finally was able to exert enough force to get it to turn a couple of extra turns. Evidently there was some oil or coffee gunk (although I could see none) that snagged the bur. Now it appears to work as before.

This is a great, service by the way. Even the process of thinking through the problem so I could post it helped me solve it.

Cleaning grinding blades

mazzers have 3 springs in grinder body, each one support for upper burr holder. check for them , if it is not the case than consider that the spring could come with coffee. often we see stones and metal parts geting between burrs.
clean it again and look good for 3 springs , if they are in their place, close the burrs to finest than go back for half of circle and grind coffee.
